Kenai River edges Wenatchee on Sunday in a shootout

November 2, 2014
Kenai River 2 @ Wenatchee 1 (SO) – Josh Creelman made 25 saves and stopped four of five shooters in the shootout as the Brown Bears took the rubber game of a three-game set in Wenatchee against the Wild in the lone NAHL game on Sunday.

Scoring was tough to come by, but the Brown Bears took a 1-0 lead early in the 2nd period on a goal from Jack Gessert, with assists going to Matt Rudin and Ben Campbell.

The lead held until late in the 3rd period when Wenatchee defenseman Ryan Chiasson scored with :51 second remaining to force overtime. Creelman played some of his best hockey during the OT as Wenatchee outshot the Brown Bears, 5-0 in the extra five minutes.

After a scoreless OT, the game would be decided in a shootout. Nick Klishko and Alex Jackstadt would score for Kenai River, while Brendan Harris had the lone goal for Wenatchee. Wenatchee goalie Zach Quinn made 24 saves in the loss.

With the win, the Brown Bears improved to 8-9-0 on the season and are in a tie for 4th place in the Midwest Division. With the shootout loss, Wenatchee did earn a point and moved into a tie for 6th place in the South Division.
