Bobcats and Minotauros bring NAHL back to Dickinson
October 21, 2014
For the second time in three seasons, the Bismarck Bobcats and Minot Minotauros will bring the North American Hockey League to the Queen City as the two rivals will battle Tuesday at the Dickinson Recreation Center at 7:00pm Mountain Time.
"We are always thrilled to showcase NAHL hockey for fans who may not have seen it before," stated Bobcats team owner and CEO Thom Brigl. "We've already been to Dickinson once and had a great crowd for a fun game against Minot and we're expecting more of the sameTuesday. I think the fans will really enjoy and relate to the hard-working, high-skill nature of the NAHL game."
The last time the Cats and Tauros met at the Dickinson Recreation Center, Minot prevailed 5-4 in a see-saw battle that ended in a shootout in front of a capacity crowd. A repeat appearance was scheduled for December 2, 2013, but was wiped out by the massive blizzard that hit western North Dakota that week.
In years past, the Bobcats have hosted exhibition games in Aberdeen, S.D., and Minot-both of which now have NAHL franchises that average over 1,200 fans per game.
"The NAHL community-based initiatives have been very well received in our North and South Dakota markets," noted NAHL commissioner Mark Frankenfeld, who is in his eighth year at the helm of the oldest and largest junior league in America. "Many of them see sold out arenas during the majority of their home games because they are such a unique and valuable part of their respective communities.
"An area like Dickinson would be a great addition to the footprint because of the local rivalries that currently exist in one of the most competitive division's in the league."
Tickets are available in Dickinson at Charbonneau Car Center, Dan Porter Motors and ProTint, starting at $8.00. They will also be available at the Dickinson Recreation Center on Tuesday prior to the game.
Proceeds for the game, which is hosted by the Dickinson Hockey Club, will go to benefit the DHC and hockey in the Queen City.
