Wild, Bandits secure wins on Day 3

April 30, 2009

The South Division champion St. Louis Bandits (2-0=4) defeated the Central Division champion Bismarck Bobcats (0-2=0), 5-2, in the second game on the third day of the five-day, four-game round-robin portion of the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, Iowa.

Grant Gorczyca and Kyle Greco scored goals for the Bandits.  Cody Keefer and Isaiah Bennis notched the Bobcats goals.

In the early game, the West Division champion Wenatchee Wild (2-1=4) overcame a 4-0 deficit to defeat the North Division champion Mahoning Valley Phantoms (2-0-1=5) in overtime, 5-4.

DJ Vandercook recorded a hat trick, including the overtime game-winner, and an assist for the Wild, and Michael Voran and Nic Dowd each recorded three assists.  Between the pipes, goaltender Mathieu Dugas turned aside 28 shots.

Tomorrow, the Phantoms will take on the Bandits in the early game (3 p.m. CST), and the Bobcats will play the host North Iowa Outlaws (0-2=0) at 7:30 p.m.

The two teams with the most points at the conclusion of the round robin will play in the Robertson Cup championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Robertson Cup crowns the NAHL’s playoff champion, which also represents USA Hockey’s Tier II Junior A national champion.
