Wild's Torrel commits to Air Force
The Wenatchee Wild has announced the forward Mitch Torrel has committed to the Air Force Academy (Atlantic Hockey) for next season.
Torrel, who started the season with the Albert Lea Thunder, is the fifth player who competed in last month's Top Prospects Tournament to commit to a school after the event.
“I've talked to Air Force assistant coach Andy Berg and head coach Frank Serratore and they're excited, as are we, about the tenacity, speed and skill that Mitch possesses,” said Wild head coach Paul Baxter.
In 48 games this season, the 18-year-old from Monticello, Minn., has 11 goals for 26 points.
“We're thrilled Mitch is continuing to progress and fulfill his potential with our team,” Baxter added. “We expect him to be a big part of our success down the stretch and into the playoffs.”
Torrel, the 11th player playing in the NAHL this season to commit to Air Force, will join Wild defenseman Adam McKenzie at the Colorado Springs, Colo., school.
The four other players to commit to a school after the Top Prospects Tournament are: Springfield Jr. Blues forward Trent Frey (Mercyhurst); St. Louis Bandits defenseman Tyler Elbrecht (Minnesota State-Mankato) and goaltender Keith Kinkaid (Union); and Topeka RoadRunners goaltender Bryce Merriam (RPI).
