Eagles spoil Warriors home opener with 3-2 win

Soo 3 @ Michigan 2 – The Soo Eagles spoiled the home opener of the Michigan Warriors with a 3-2 win in Flint in the lone game in the NAHL on Sunday. For the Eagles it wrapped up a three-game weekend, in which they came away with two wins. Sunday’s hero was Eagles goaltender Tyler Marble, who made 41 saves in the win as so was outshot by Michigan, 43-25.
Nathan Harris got the Eagles on the board first in the 1st period as he fired home his second goal of the season with assists to Cody Von Rueden and Mike Sabatini. Michigan equalized early in the 2nd period as Brock Labelle scored his first goal of the season with an assist to Zach O’Hara. Soo would regain the lead six minutes later as Eric Rivard scored his second goal of the weekend and third of the season. Alex Thaulien and Jared Van Wormer would pick up assists.
Van Wormer would strike for Soo’s 3rd goal, the eventual game-winner, less than a minute into the 3rd period as Rivard and Taulien would pick up assists. Zack Szajner made it 3-2 with a goal with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, but that would be all for Michigan as Marble shut the door the rest of the way.
Warriors goaltender Trevor Gorsuch took the loss, making 22 saves. Soo was 0 for 3 on the power play, which Mcihigan was 0 for 6.
