RoadRunners, Bandits skate to Day 1 wins
The Topeka RoadRunners and the St. Louis Bandits skated to wins on the first day of the three-day round-robin portion of the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament today at the Hardee’s Iceplex in Chesterfield, Mo.
Dennis Brown scored two third-period goals, including the game-winner, as the RoadRunners downed the Mahoning Valley Phantoms, 3-2, in the first game of the tournament. Josh Kamrass assisted on both of Brown’s goals, while goaltender Bryce Merrriam turned aside 20 shots.
Ben Miller tallied two goals, including the game-winner with less than five minutes to play, and an assist as the Bandits edged the Alexandria Blizzard, 3-2. Mike Leone added two assists in the victory, while goaltender Cal Heeter made 22 saves.
Tomorrow, the RoadRunners (1-0) will face off against the Blizzard (0-1) at 3 p.m. CST, while the Bandits (1-0) take on the Phantoms (0-1) at 7:30 p.m.
