Friday Finals: Corpus Christi Makes Statement with Shutout Victory

Danbury 2 @ Elmira 4 - The Danbury Hat Tricks used a strong first period and a solid defensive effort to defeat the Elmira Aviators 4-2, opening the season with a victory at Danbury Ice Arena. Danbury came out firing in the opening period, scoring three times to take a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes. William Cronberger, Gus Rabe and Johnny Niemela each found the back of the net for the Hat Tricks, with Beswick also recording an assist in the opening frame. Despite being outshot 15-7 in the first period, Danbury capitalized on its offensive opportunities to build an early two-goal advantage. Elmira responded with goals from Cael Primanti during the game, but the Aviators were unable to match Danbury's offensive production. The Hat Tricks continued to build on their lead in the second period, adding another goal to take a 4-1 advantage heading into the final frame. Beswick finished the night with a goal and an assist, while Tristan Konobelj and Joseph Krausfeldt each recorded assists for Danbury. Elmira entered the third period facing a three-goal deficit but continued to battle. The Aviators generated 10 shots in the final period and eventually found the back of the net to cut Danbury's lead to 4-2. With the Aviators pushing for another goal, Danbury tightened up defensively and limited Elmira to just two shots in the final portion of the period. Goaltender Ty Ferguson was strong throughout the night, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced to help the Hat Tricks preserve their two-goal advantage. Elmira finished the game with a 30-21 edge in shots on goal, but Danbury's early offensive surge proved to be the difference. The Hat Tricks also went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Elmira finished 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Danbury held on for the 4-2 victory, earning its first win of the season, while Elmira will look to bounce back in its next contest.

New Hampshire 3 @ New Jersey 4 - A late-game comeback from the Mountain Kings was not enough as the Titans held on for a 4-3 victory. The New Jersey Titans opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead before New Hampshire responded to tie the game at 1-1. Dylan Podergois scored the game-tying goal for the Titans, helping New Jersey regain momentum after the Mountain Kings' response. The Titans continued to apply pressure following the equalizer, eventually taking the lead once again on a goal from Ryder O’Neil. Kaden Julkin and Joe Pocrenic recorded assists on the play as New Jersey regained a 2-1 advantage. New Jersey carried that momentum into the second period, continuing to generate offensive chances and keep the Mountain Kings on their heels. The Titans added to their lead when Hayden Saad found the back of the net, extending the advantage to 3-1. The Titans weren't finished, as Pocrenic added another goal to record his second point of the contest and push New Jersey's lead to 4-1 heading into the third period. With a three-goal advantage, the Titans appeared to be in control heading into the final 20 minutes. New Hampshire, however, came firing back in the third period. The Mountain Kings scored twice to cut the deficit to 4-3, putting the pressure back on New Jersey and turning the final period into a tense finish. As New Hampshire continued to push for the equalizer, New Jersey goaltender Simon Kremar came up with several key saves to preserve the Titans' lead. Kremar stood tall in the closing minutes as the Mountain Kings searched for a fourth goal. New Hampshire was unable to find the tying goal, and the Titans held on for a 4-3 victory to open the season. After building a three-goal lead, New Jersey was forced to withstand a furious third-period comeback but ultimately secured the opening-night win.

Maryland 5 @ Philadelphia 1 - Despite striking first and extremely early into the contest, the Philadelphia Rebels fall to the reigning Robertson Cup champs in 5-1 fashion at home. The matchup opened up with an unassisted tally scored by Justin Vlassis 30 seconds into the game. The Black Bears would even the score in the last five minutes of the opening frame as Tanner Terranova scored his first goal as a Black Bear with a power-play tally. The scoring would continue in the second frame as Joseph Gasperko lit the lamp four minutes into the period. With the lead heading into the third, Maryland would add three more to the scoreboard in the final 20 minutes of regulation. The first one on the scoresheet in the third frame is Ajay Rai with a power-play goal. A few minutes later, Brady Anes adds another. To round out the scoring, Jesse Gauthier scored his first of the season. The Black Bears skate to a 5-1 victory. In between the pipes for Maryland was Cole Werthman. He turned aside 24 out of 25 shots on net.

Minnesota W 10 @ Wisconsin 5 - Minnesota Wilderness started their 2026-27 regular season campaign with a convincing 10-5 victory over Wisconsin Windigo on Friday night at The Ponds of Brookfield. The two teams had a very aggressive start to the game by trading off three goals each in the opening period to finish at 3-3 going into the second. Minnesota then got their rhythm back in the second period, finding the net five more times to lead 8-5 going into the final frame. Jackson Lackas and Carson McGinley added power-play goals in the second period, with Adel Arlan scoring the game-winning goal for the Wilderness. Kevin Lysohir and River Freeman also scored in the five-goal barrage. Jakeb Lynch scored a hat trick in the third period, with Davis Damrow adding another goal later in the period, while the Wilderness finished the game with 41 shots on goal. Wisconsin received goals from Jack Templeton, Axel Gleasman, Torii Schmidt, Renner Stavroplos, and Braeden Hart. Templeton collected one goal and one assist, earning first-star honors. Also, Bergante and Artis Skrebels were. Tobias Trieskey made 18 saves on 20 shots in 40 minutes of relief to get the victory for Minnesota. There was also a physical third period, with Vladislav Tsapko and Torii Schmidt earning fighting majors and misconducts.

Springfield 1 @ Janesville 6 - The Janesville Jets earned a 6-1 victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues after scoring five unanswered goals following an early Springfield tally. Tate Spaulding put the Jr. Blues on the board just 11 seconds into the game, giving Springfield an early lead. Janesville responded later in the opening period, with Sean Truby and Ty Bashaw scoring less than three minutes apart to give the Jets a 2-1 advantage after the first period. Janesville continued to build its lead in the second period. Ty Bashaw scored his second goal of the game late in the frame, while Harry Minucci and Hans Hedlund also found the back of the net to put the Jets ahead 5-1 entering the third period. Cooper Avelar added the lone goal of the third period midway through the frame, extending Janesville’s lead to five. The Jets held Springfield off the scoresheet for the remainder of the game to secure the 6-1 victory. Janesville outshot Springfield 48-20 in the contest.

Kenai River 4 @ Minnesota M 7 - The Minnesota Mallards won the first game of the 2026-27 season against the Kenai River Brown Bears by a score of 7-4 on Saturday. Minnesota took control from the get-go, scoring four times in the first period, giving them a 4-1 lead going into the first intermission. Lauzon netted twice in the period, while Gordon and Fang also scored for Minnesota. Two additional goals were scored in the second period by Minnesota, putting them up by five goals at 6-1 with under ten minutes left in the period. The game-winning goal was scored by Moore halfway through the second period, and Martsching got the only power-play goal of the game in the period for Minnesota. Kenai River scored a pair of power-play goals in the second period, including one from Hansberger, which was his second of the game. However, the Brown Bears kept fighting in the third period and managed to score two more goals, reducing the gap to 6-4. Ryan Lucarelli of the Minnesota team scored an empty-net goal in the last minute and gave his team a 7-4 win. Minnesota outshot the Brown Bears 44-30 and had three power play goals. Both Lucarelli and Gordon scored two goals each, as did Lauzon.

El Paso 0 @ Corpus Christi IceRays 1 - To kick off the season, The Corpus Christi IceRays earned a 1-0 road victory over the El Paso Rhinos behind a shutout performance from goaltender Vladislav Bryzgalov. After a scoreless opening period, Michael Sandruck broke the deadlock midway through the second period, giving the IceRays the only goal they would need. Oliver Czaja and Michael Azzarone recorded assists on the play. The Rhinos outshot the IceRays 21-18, but Bryzgalov and the Corpus Christi defense kept El Paso off the scoresheet through the remainder of the game to secure the shutout win. Logan Hughes started in goal for El Paso and kept the Rhinos within one as the game remained a one-goal contest entering the third period. The Rhinos continued to apply pressure in the final period, but Corpus Christi maintained its defense and protected the lead through the final horn to secure the road victory.

Lone Star 6 @ Amarillo 1 - The Lone Star Brahmas opened the 2026-27 season with a 6-1 victory over the Amarillo Wranglers. Lone Star established an early lead, scoring four times in the opening period. Jackson Vaites opened the scoring early, followed by goals from Vincenzo Capano, Nolan Wildfong and Hugo Zetterlund to give the Brahmas a 4-0 advantage heading into the second period. Amarillo got on the board in the second period when Jayton Frederick scored to cut the deficit to three. Zetterlund answered with his second goal of the game before Dylan Chernoff added another later in the period, extending the Brahmas’ lead to 6-1. Chernoff’s goal was assisted by Zetterlund and Cooper Martin. Neither team scored in the third period as Lone Star protected its five-goal advantage through the final horn. The Brahmas outshot the Wranglers 20-13 in the victory.

Houston 1 @ Shreveport 4 - The Shreveport Mudbugs took home a 4-1 victory over the Houston Bulls to open the 2026-2027 season. The Mudbugs struck first in the opening period when Evan Hoglund scored midway through the frame. Houston answered later in the period as Noah Callender found the back of the net, but Duke Ehrhard restored Shreveport’s lead before the end of the opening frame. William-Alexis Tremblay extended the Mudbugs’ advantage early in the second period, scoring his first of two goals in the game. Shreveport carried a 3-1 lead into the third period. Tremblay added his second goal late in the third period to give the Mudbugs a four-goal total. Shreveport held Houston off the scoresheet for the remainder of the contest to secure the season-opening victory. The Mudbugs outshot the Bulls 32-16 in the contest.

Odessa 3 @ New Mexico 1 - The Odessa Jackalopes kicked off the 2026-27 campaign with a 3-1 win against the New Mexico Ice Wolves in a match played on Saturday. It was a game of goals scored by both teams in the first period, but Jonathan Cifaldi put Odessa ahead before Max Stracar got a goal for New Mexico, tying the game at 1-1. It was Cifaldi again who gave the Jackalopes a lead in the second period after scoring his second goal of the game, giving Odessa a 2-1 lead. It was the game-winning goal as Odessa took the one-goal lead to the third period. Odessa extended its lead to 3-1 in the third period when Bjorn Bahnman got a goal for the Jackalopes in the middle of the third period. Although the Ice Wolves had a 28-19 advantage in shots, with 15 shots in the first period, Odessa goalkeeper Benjamin Vatis made 27 saves on 28 shots to get the win for his team. Cifaldi was awarded the first star for two goals, while Vatis bagged the second-star spot for his 27 saves. Stracar got the third-star award for New Mexico as he scored their only goal of the game.
