Minnesota Wilderness Captain Anderson makes NCAA Commitment

The Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Avery Anderson has committed to play NCAA hockey for Amherst College in the NESCAC.

The 6-foot-3 captain from Long Lake, Minnesota, Anderson will join the Mammoths at Amherst College in the fall. Anderson is a second-year veteran of the Minnesota Wilderness, skating in 118 contests with the Midwest Division club. This past season, Anderson played a major role in the locker room and on the ice for the Wilderness. The ‘05 forward served as the captain of the team, helping to lift the Minnesota-based team to a Robertson Cup Championship Game appearance. On the ice, Anderson recorded a 40-point regular season with the Wilderness while nearly skating in every regular-season contest for the club. In his 56 games played during the regular season, the second-year veteran lit the lamp on 15 occasions while logging 25 assists for the Wilderness. One of his tallies was named a decider in a contest, while two goals were scored on the power play. In addition to his offensive edge on the ice, he featured a +16 rating from the regular season.

Thanks to his help, he aided the Wilderness to a Midwest Division Title, their first division title in the organization’s history. During the regular season, Anderson also went home with the honor of the NAHL Academic Achievement Award thanks to his work off the ice and in the classroom.

In the postseason, Anderson was crucial in providing the offensive momentum in the Midwest Division Semifinals and Finals as teammates went down due to injury. The ‘05 forward scored seven goals and recorded five assists in 12 playoff games. Anderson notched a point per game for the Wilderness during their hunt for the cup.  In addition, two of his tallies were power-play markers.

In Anderson’s debut season in the League of Opportunity, the 6-foot-3 forward laced up in 50 contests for the Minnesota-based club. He recorded six goals and notched 17 assists during his 2024-25 campaign. He registered 23 points for the Wilderness, lighting the lamp once in game-winning fashion with two goals scored on the power play.

Anderson is one of 13 members of the Minnesota Wilderness to make a college ice hockey commitment.
