Corpus Christi Goaltender Melcher makes NCAA Commitment

The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Gavin Melcher has committed to play NCAA hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the WIAC.

The ‘05 netminder from Holland, Michigan, Melcher will join the Pointers in Wisconsin this fall. Melcher finished out his age-out season of junior hockey with the IceRays in the South Division. The 6-foot-4 netminder played in net in eight regular-season contests for Corpus Christi. Melcher recorded four victories while registering a .904 save percentage in that stint.

In addition to his work in the regular season, Melcher made an appearance in the postseason. He registered a .941 save percentage and 1.76 goals-against average in his lone playoff appearance.

Melcher joins a hockey program that has winning genes in Division III hockey. The Pointers have won the National Championship title on six occasions while making 16 NCAA tournament appearances.

Melcher is one of 11 members of the Corpus Christi IceRays to make an NCAA ice hockey commitment.
