Aberdeen Defenseman Orr makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Briggs Orr has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Ferris State University in the CCHA.

The 6-foot-2 blueliner from El Dorado Hills, California, Orr will join the Bulldogs at Ferris State this fall. Orr is a fourth-year veteran of the League of Opportunity, skating most of his time in the Central Division. This past season, the ‘05 skater laced up in 43 regular-season contests for the South Division club. Orr tallied a goal and recorded 14 assists from the blue line. Orr also posted a +14 rating with the Wings. In the postseason, the Golden State skater scored a goal while registering three assists for the Central Division club. Orr helped to lift the Wings to a Central Division Final appearance against the Austin Bruins.

Orr went into detail on what it means to have this opportunity at the Division I level.

Head coach and general manager of the Wings, Scott Langer, shares his excitement for Orr.

"Briggs has put a lot into this commitment. He has played four years of junior hockey, working every day to achieve this goal. We are excited to see Briggs achieve Division I hockey."

Before his age-out season, Orr started his 2024-25 campaign with the Maine Nordiques in the East Division. He laced up in 29 contests for the team, registering an assist for the Nordiques. He would then be acquired by the Aberdeen Wings in January 2025, where he would finish out the season and evidently his NAHL career. With Aberdeen, Orr lit the lamp on four occasions while recording seven assists for the South Dakota-based team. The California skater was effective at scoring at crucial moments for Aberdeen as Orr scored two game-winning goals with the Wings.

In the 2023-24 season, the 6-foot-2 righty played in 13 regular-season games. Orr recorded an assist for the Minnesota-based team in that stint.

In his debut year in the League of Opportunity, Orr laced up in 37 games across two Central Division clubs. He started his NAHL campaign with the Minot Minotauros, playing in 16 games for the North Dakota team. Orr notched his first NAHL point with an assist with the team. He would then be acquired by the St. Cloud Norsemen, where he would go on to skate with the club for the remainder of the season. He rocked the Norsemen sweater in 27 contests across the regular season and postseason. From that time, the California native recorded two assists for St. Cloud.

In his NAHL career, Orr played 169 games in the League of Opportunity. The 6-foot-2 defenseman featured 35 career points from his time in the NAHL.

Orr is one of nine members of the Aberdeen Wings to make a Division I college hockey commitment.
