North Iowa Goaltender Durkin makes NCAA DI Commitment

August 25, 2026

The North Iowa Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Charlie Durkin has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Merrimack College in Hockey East.

The ‘06 netminder from Glencoe, Illinois, has committed to the Warriors program. Durkin just wrapped up his first season in the League of Opportunity, playing 20 games between the pipes for the Central Division team. He recorded nine wins for the Bulls, recording a .906 save percentage and a 2.98 goals-against average during the regular season. Durkin featured two shutout performances with North Iowa, both of them being 30+ save nights.

Durkin shares his excitement to commit to Merrimack College.

“I am so happy and grateful to announce my commitment to pursue academics and play Division I hockey at Merrimack College. I would like to thank God, my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for all the support and help they have given me on this journey. Always stay true to your vision!”

Smith is one of eight members of the North Iowa Bulls to make a NCAA ice hockey college commitment.
