Fairbanks Goaltender Roberts makes NCAA DI Commitment

July 20, 2026

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender, Miles Roberts, has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northern Michigan University in the CCHA.

“I am humbled to announce my commitment to play Division I college hockey at Northern Michigan University”, said Roberts. “I’d like to thank the fans for their continuous support of our team. This would not have been possible without you. Thank you to the entire Fairbanks Ice Dogs organization for giving me the best year of my life, on and off the ice. I hope to return to Fairbanks in the future and give back to the community that gave me so much.”

The ‘05 goaltender from the Golden State, Roberts will join the Wildcats in Michigan in the fall. The 21-year-old is a second-year NAHL veteran. This past season, Roberts played in net for the Ice Dogs in 34 contests, recording 20 wins for the Midwest Division team. He spotlighted a .922 save percentage and recorded a 2.19 goals-against average. In his final year of junior hockey, he recorded two shutouts in the regular season. His first one was made in 27-save fashion, while his second shutout night featured a 33-save performance. During the regular season, Roberts earned distinction one week for his work between the pipes. He was named the Midwest Division Star of the Week on March 2, 2026. The 6-foot-2 netminder also got the opportunity to head to the USA Hockey Arena to represent the Midwest Division as a Top Prospect.

In the postseason, the California native laced up for five games with the Ice Dogs. He produced a 1.63 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage for Fairbanks. One of his two postseason victories was in shutout fashion. He turned aside 23 shots by the Wisconsin Windigo, forcing the Midwest Division Semifinals into a game four.

Head coach of the Ice Dogs, Dakota Bell, shares his excitement for the netminder.

“Our coaching staff is thrilled to see Miles rewarded with this opportunity. Our goalie coach, Adam Carlson, played a crucial role in Miles’ development this season. As the year progressed, Miles became more and more comfortable here in Fairbanks, and that confidence showed in his outstanding playoff performances. He embraced every moment of his age-out season and continued to improve throughout the year. This commitment is proof that the NAHL development process works—even for age-out players. We are excited to follow Miles at Northern Michigan, and I have no doubt his talent will continue to shine.”

Roberts is one of eight members of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
