Austin Goaltender Butikis makes NCAA DI Commitment

July 14, 2026

The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Cody Butikis has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Lindenwood University.

The 6-foot-3 netminder from Sewell, New Jersey, Butikis will join the Lindenwood Lions in the fall. Butikis just wrapped up his final season of junior hockey, helping to propel his team to the Robertson Cup championship. The ‘05 goaltender played in net in 29 regular season contests, recording 19 wins in the blue paint. He spotlighted a .914 save percentage while registering a 2.39 goals-against average. He secured his first NAHL shutout in late January with a 26-save performance against the Minnesota Mallards.

Butikis shares what it means to earn the opportunity to play for the Lions in the fall.

“It means the world to me to continue my career at the collegiate level. It has always been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to play Division I hockey. I’m very grateful to be given this opportunity.”

The 21-year-old netminder played a crucial role for the Bruins in the postseason, winning timely games for Austin in the Central Division Finals. He first recorded a 24-save performance against the Aberdeen Wings in a win-or-go-home situation. He would continue his winning ways in the blue paint with a 29-save night, earning the victory for the Bruins and clinching a spot at the Robertson Cup.

Head coach of the Bruins, Steve Howard, dives into detail on the organization’s excitement for Butikis.

“We are very happy for Cody and his family! He’s worked hard all season and is a great teammate. He’s ready to step up to the challenge when we call on him, and his drive and performance played key roles in our team winning the Central Division championship. We are excited to see Cody continue to perform for us this season.”

Butikis was drafted by the Lone Star Brahmas in the 2025 NAHL Entry Draft in the third round. He was acquired by the Bruins prior to the 2025-26 season.

In addition, Butikis got the opportunity to head to the Philadelphia Flyers Development Camp this summer, getting the opportunity to compete against some of the best young talent in the Flyers organization.

Butikis is one of seven members of the Austin Bruins to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
