Northeast Defenseman Fabiano makes NCAA Commitment

May 28, 2026

The Northeast Generals of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Stephen Fabiano has committed to play NCAA hockey for Tufts University in the NESCAC.

Fabiano went into detail on why heading to college early felt like the best step for him.

“I am very excited to be able to attend Tufts next year and compete in the NESCAC against such great competition. The decision was not easy, especially going a year early, but it came down to pushing myself both academically and athletically. Tufts felt like the perfect fit, and being only 10 minutes from home makes it even more special. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a strong program and school.

The 6-foot-1 righty from Charlestown, Massachusetts, will stay in his home state to skate with the Jumbos in the fall. Fabiano is a first-year skater for the Generals. He was drafted by Northeast in the 2025 NAHL Entry Draft in the eighth round, 243rd overall. The 20-year-old played in 63 games combined from the regular season and postseason. Fabiano found twine seven times and registered 12 assists in his rookie season. One of his tallies was scored in game-winning fashion during the regular season. In addition, Fabiano’s 17 points rank third on the Generals in defensive scoring, and at just 19 years of age, he will be one of the youngest players on Tufts roster next season.

Head coach and general manager of the Generals, Bryan Erikson, went into detail on how Fabiano will find success in college hockey.

“Tufts University is getting a great player and person in Stephen. After a really productive prep career, Stephen found a home in our top six defenseman core immediately. He hits like a truck, can fire the puck, and loves to jump into the play.  He is a 200-foot defenseman who is great in all situations. Stephen has improved all year, and I think he will have a smooth transition to the college game. A relentless worker who loves the game, and it shows when you watch him. We’re really looking forward to watching Stephen play right down the road.”

Fabiano is one of 13 members of the Northeast Generals to make a college ice hockey commitment.
