Northeast Captain Bartkowski makes NCAA Commitment

The Northeast Generals of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Mikey Bartkowski has committed to play NCAA hockey for SUNY-Oswego in the NESCAC. 

The 5-foot-10 skater from the Palmetto State, Bartkowski, will head to Oswego, New York, to skate with the Lakers in the fall. Bartkowski served as the captain for the Generals this past season. The 20-year-old laced up in 32 games for Northeast, spotlighting 10 goals and 19 assists in his third season. Two of his tallies were named deciders in contests, while one goal was scored shorthanded. The South Carolina native missed 27 games in his last season in junior hockey due to injury; however, Bartkowski did not let injury set him back. He featured his best statistical season of junior hockey during his age-out year.

Bartkowski shares more on his recruitment with the Lakers and how he knew it was the right spot for him.

“The coaches at Oswego reached out to me when I was injured, and I took a visit. It’s a beautiful facility, the coaches are great, and I wanted to go somewhere where I knew I could fit in right away. Even last year, you wonder what the plan looks like, and as an age-out this year with the changing landscape of hockey, I just had trust in God’s plan, and he led me to Oswego. I am very proud that I will always be a Northeast General and couldn’t be more excited for the future.”

The captain featured back-to-back five-point games early in the season, scoring a hat trick in one of the contests. His work on the ice earned him the recognition as a Top Prospect for the East Division team at the 2026 Top Prospects Tournament.

In addition to his scoring during the regular season, Bartkowski has shown up on the scoresheet during the 2026 playoffs. The 5-foot-10 righty has notched a goal and an assist in the five postseason games.

Head coach of the Generals, Bryan Erikson, shares what it has meant to have Bartkowski a part of the Generals organization.

“Mikey is just the absolute best on and off the ice. He is an amazing young man who has such a strong faith in God, and it shows in how he carries himself at and away from the rink. His faith has helped him through some crazy injuries the past few years. When Mikey came to us three years ago, he was raw, but he worked hard, and then he worked some more. He took advantage of every extra ice, extra skills, and extra video, and it showed with his rapid improvement.

Erikson explained how important the South Carolina native was to the team’s culture.

“He is truly the engine that drives our team. His work ethic is unrivaled, and it is contagious to those around him. He makes any team he plays on better. Oswego is a great program that gets great players, and Mikey will fit right in. His versatility in the lineup is what makes him special; he can play all four lines and all three forward spots.

Erikson provided more detail on why Bartkowski is so versatile.

He is a beast on the penalty kill and in the d-zone, while being over a point-per-game this season. I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to coach Mikey. Guys like him make you a better coach, and I will be forever grateful for the impact Mikey has made on the Northeast Generals and myself. We can’t wait to watch his success at the next level.”

Last year, the South Carolina native hit the ice in 29 games for the Generals. He featured four goals and six assists for Northeast. The ‘05 skater was a rookie during the 2023-24 season and played in 46 games for the Generals that year. He scored his first junior goal while making nine assists for the team.

The 5-foot-10 forward has played 105 regular-season games with the Generals over the past three seasons and features 49 career points with the team.

Bartkowski is one of six members of the Northeast Generals to make a college ice hockey commitment.
