The Watertown Shamrocks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Carter Sproule has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for University of Connecticut in Hockey East.

Hailing from Grand Forks, North Dakota, Sproule will head to Connecticut next semester to skate with the Huskies. The 6-foot-3 skater is a third-year veteran of the NAHL. This past season, the 20-year-old has laced up for 19 games, tallying 10 goals and 20 assists. Five of his goals have been scored on the man advantage, while one goal was named the game-winning goal. There have only been four games this season that the ‘05 skater has not shown up on the scoresheet. His career high performance was on November 29, 2025, where he featured a five-point night against the Minot Minotauros. Sproule found the back of the net and produced four assists against the North Dakota team.

Last season, Sproule started his 2024-25 campaign with the Oklahoma Warriors before being acquired by the Shamrocks in November. With Watertown, the North Dakota native hit the ice in 39 games, finding the back of the net 12 times, while notching 28 assists. Four of his goals were scored on the power play, while one was tallied short-handed. His Oklahoma campaign featured the 6-foot-3 forward skating in 17 contests, notching four goals and four assists.

His debut season in the NAHL was with the defending Robertson Cup Champions, the Oklahoma Warriors. The ‘05 skater laced up in 58 games, scoring seven goals and notching 20 assists with the hockey organization. Sproule has hit the ice for a total of 133 games in the NAHL, securing 33 goals and 72 assists for a total of 105 points.

Sproule shares his gratitude for his circle of people.

“I am proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division I hockey at the University of Connecticut. I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone else who has helped me along the way.”

Head coach of the Shamrocks, Casey Kirley, shares his excitement for Sproule’s next step.

“We are thrilled for Carter to have the opportunity to join UConn. Carter has had a significant impact on our organization, both on the ice and in the community. UConn is getting a player who can influence games in a number of ways, including his physicality, playmaking, and ability to score goals. More importantly, they are getting a great teammate and natural leader.”

Sproule is one of three members of the Watertown Shamrocks to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
