Chippewa Defenseman Schulte makes NCAA DI Commitment
The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Sam Schulte has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Army-West Point in the Atlantic.
The 6’1 blueliner from the State of Hockey has committed to skate with the Black Knights in New York. The second-year veteran has hit the ice in all 15 contests this season with the Steel. He is the leading scorer among blueliners on his roster, registering three goals and five assists. The ‘07 skater in his rookie season hit the ice in 60 games for Chippewa. He tallied three goals and three assists for the Wisconsin-based team. Schulte was also named to the Selects Gold roster last season at the 2025 Top Prospects Tournament. Prior to joining the NAHL, he skated for his high school team, Mounds View High, where he was named a captain in his senior season.
Schulte shares his excitement to commit to the program on social media.
“I am incredibly excited and honored to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where I will be playing Division I hockey. Thank you to God, my amazing family, all my dedicated coaches, supportive teammates, and great friends for helping me get here. Your belief and support made all the difference.”
General Manager of the Steel, Mike Marshall, explains his excitement for Schulte and his commitment.
“We’re incredibly proud of Sam and his commitment to play at Army. Sam is a leader on and off the ice and is a steady, reliable defenseman who pairs his strong defensive play with great offensive instincts. His work ethic, character, and compete level set the standard in our locker room. Army is getting an outstanding player and an even better person.”
Schulte is one of three members of the Chippewa Steel to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
