The Titans Snap the Black Bears’ 10-Game Win Streak
Blake Jones was the hero in overtime
Maryland 5 @ New Jersey 6 (OT) - The Black Bears take a midweek road trip to the Titans, where New Jersey showed off their dominance on home ice. The contest kicked off with Maryland showing up on the scoresheet first when Aidan Petroff tallied his first NAHL goal at the 15:04 minute mark in the first frame. New Jersey’s Tate Pecknold delivers the game-tying goal eight minutes following to equalize the matchup heading into the second period. Continuing his goal streak, Maryland newcomer Ryan Franks finds the back of the net nine minutes into the second period to give the Black Bears a short-lived lead. From that moment on in the contest, the power play became both the Titans’ and the Black Bears’ biggest assets. Ty Creech, New Jersey’s second-year veteran, produces a goal on the man advantage. Following shortly behind him, Arseniy Zharikov notches another New Jersey power-play goal to give the Titans a 3-2 lead. However, the Black Bears’ top goal scorer and recent East Division Star of the Week, Tanner Duncan, rallies and tallies two power-play goals in the final two minutes of the frame to give Maryland the edge heading into the third period. At the 16:38 minute mark in the third frame, the Titans responded as Nikolas Doumas tied up the contest. Less than six minutes following, Owen Leahy finds the back of the net on the power play to give New Jersey a short-lived lead until Maryland’s Alternate Captain, Joshua Frenette, scores a goal on the man advantage a little over a minute later. The contest eventually moved into extra minutes, where Blake Jones scored on the power play with 46 seconds on the clock to give the Titans a 6-5 overtime win over the red-hot Maryland Black Bears. Jones was crucial in New Jersey’s success because prior to him tallying a goal, he notched three assists for the Titans. Andrei Nikolaev played a huge role in the blue paint for New Jersey. He faced a season-high of 40 shots, turning away 35 of them. The Black Bears' 10-game win streak was snapped as the Titans took down the East Division leader.
