NA Now: New Mexico Ice Wolves

The NA Now video series features an in-depth look into all NAHL teams as they prepare for the 2025-26 season. One team will be highlighted every day, leading up to the start of the regular season on September 12, 2025. Each interview features each team’s head coach, as they dive into detail on the expectations and outlooks for this upcoming season.

New Mexico Ice Wolves

Head Coach: Kyle McKenzie (1st season)

2024-25 Regular Season Record: 31-21-4-3 – 69 points (4th in South Division)

2024-25 Leading Scorer: Toivo Laaksonen (16-32–48)

2025 Playoffs: Lost South Division Semifinals 3-0 to the Lone Star Brahmas

2025-26 Division: South Division

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Formation Year: 2019 (7th season)

“We pride ourselves on the least amount of player movement in the league,” said Kyle McKenzie. “And with that being said, we bring a player in our organization, we're going to spend the time to develop that player and see it through.”

​The commitment to the athletes and their development is what makes the New Mexico Ice Wolves organization special for Kyle McKenzie. He shares more about what it means to have the opportunity to lead the team and what to expect from this season’s rosters. McKenzie dives into detail on how his past experiences of playing Junior and Division I hockey have shaped him as a coach.
