The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Caden Morgan has committed to play NCAA hockey for Middlebury College in the NESCAC.

The 6’0 lefty from Edina, Minnesota is heading back East to skate with the Panthers in Middlebury, Vermont in the fall. Morgan is a second-year veteran in the NAHL. This past season he split his playing time between the Ice Rays and the Odessa Jackalopes. He was acquired by Corpus Christi in early February after playing for Odessa during the first half of the season. As an IceRay, he laced up in 27 games, tallying two goals and nine assists. While as a Jackalope this year, the blueliner hit the ice in 34 games. Morgan found the back of the net five times and produced 11 assists. Two of his five goals were scored on the man advantage.

In Morgan’s debut season, he started his year with the Chippewa Steel before being acquired by the Jackalopes. The ‘04 defenseman laced up in 31 games with the Steel, finding the back of the net once and spotlighting five assists. His lone goal was scored shorthanded and was the decider in the contest. Following his time with the Midwest Division team, he was acquired by Odessa in early February. Morgan played in 13 games where he notched one goal with the South Division team.

Morgan will join five fellow NAHL players this fall at Middlebury College. Joining the 6’0 defenseman will be Landon Brownlee from the Rochester Jr. Americans, Luc Malkhassian from the Austin Bruins, John Halverson from the Wisconsin Windigo, Tyler Wishart from the St. Cloud Norsemen, and James Schneid from the New Jersey Titans.

Assistant Coach of the IceRays, Phil Oberlin, shares more on the development he has seen from Morgan.

“Bringing Caden into the team during the year was a piece that added veteran presence to an already deep blueline. The versatility within his game allowed us the freedom to play him in any situation of the game. Caden will make an immediate impact for Middlebury College next year.”

Morgan is one of sixteen members of the Corpus Christi IceRays to make a college ice hockey commitment.
