The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League named Steve Dougherty as the organization’s fifth head coach.
Hailing from New Jersey, Dougherty earns the title of Head Coach after serving as a coach for the Steel for the past three seasons. Last year he was named as the Associate Head Coach, while the two years prior, he served as the Assistant Coach for Chippewa. Prior to joining the Steel, Dougherty served as the Assistant Coach of the Walpole Express in the EHL for the 2021-2022 season.
Prior to coaching, he played his youth hockey in New Jersey and eventually worked his way up to play juniors in British Columbia.
“I’m incredibly grateful and honored to be named the next head coach of the Chippewa Steel. I appreciate the ownership group’s trust in my abilities and shared vision for the team, stated Dougherty. “I’m also very excited to work with Mike Marshall and the experienced staff that’s been set in place over the past few weeks. We have something special going on here in Chippewa and can’t wait to start working with our great players.”
