Corpus Christi Defenseman Hayek makes NCAA Commitment

June 16, 2025

The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Andrew Hayek has committed to play NCAA hockey for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the WIAC.

The 20-year-old from Chicago, Illinois is heading to skate with the Blugolds in Eau Claire, Wisconsin this upcoming fall. Hayek is a third-year skater with the IceRays. He made his NAHL debut in April of 2023 with a three-game call-up. The blueliner later that year got a taste of a full season of play with Corpus Christi, appearing in 52 games. The 5’11 righty tallied two goals and made eight assists. Following that season, he spent his final year of junior hockey back in the 361 and laced up for 51 games with the IceRays. Hayek found the back of the net twice, six assists, and spotlighted a +9 rating on the year. The Illinois native played in 106 games over his three seasons in the NAHL with Corpus Christi.

Hayek will be joining fellow South Division skater, Trey Gnetz, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the fall. Gnetz skated for the Lone Star Brahmas this past season.

Hayek is one of thirteen members of the Corpus Christi IceRays to make a college ice hockey commitment.
