Maine Goaltender DellaRusso makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Matthew DellaRusso has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northeastern University in the Hockey East Conference.
The 6’3 netminder from Darien, Connecticut is heading to Boston, Massachusetts to play with the Huskies in the fall. DellaRusso is a first-year skater in the NAHL. He started his season with the Maine Nordiques before being acquired by the El Paso Rhinos. However, after six games with the South Division squad, DellaRusso was reacquired by the Nordiques right before the trade deadline. This season with Nordiques he features a 2.22 goals against average and .917 save percentage. Two of his 20 games in the blue paint were shutout performances and DellaRusso only has four regulation losses on the season.
DellaRusso shares his excitement to be skating with the Huskies in the fall.
“I am very proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division I hockey and continue my education at Northeastern University. I want to thank God, my family, coaches, advisor, friends, and everyone who has helped me along the way.”
Head coach of the Nordiques, Nick Skerlick, goes into detail on the work ethic he has seen from DellaRusso this season.
“Matthew is a special team member for us. His journey this year was an interesting one as we were able to bring him back at the deadline after a trade to El Paso. When he came available for a second time, we knew this was his home and he secured his winning ways with great efforts down the stretch. With the resiliency shown, and dealing with a fierce competitor, our staff knows he will push himself playing Hockey East surrounded by some of the best college hockey players each day. Congrats Matthew, and the DellaRusso family.”
DellaRusso is the ninth member of the Maine Nordiques to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
