Wisconsin Defenseman Farrell makes NCAA DI Commitment

April 8, 2025

The Wisconsin Windigio of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Nate Farrell has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Air Force Academy in the Atlantic.

The 6’0 blueliner from Wheaton, Illinois will fly, fight, and win in the fall with the Air Force Academy. Farrell is a first-year skater in the NAHL. He started his season with the Oklahoma Warriors. He suited up in 40 contests with Oklahoma and tallied eight goals and 14 assists. Six of his goals were scored on the man advantage, while one of his eight goals was scored shorthanded. He was acquired by the Windigo at the trade deadline and he has served as a major asset to the Windigo. Farrell has laced up in 14 matchups for Wisconsin and has produced one goal and eight assists. The ‘04 lefty was selected as a Top Prospect for the 2025 Top Prospect Tournament. He skated on the undefeated Selects Black team and scored two goals during the tournament. One of his goals was scored on the man advantage and was the decider for the matchup.

Heading to the Air Force Academy seems like a full circle moment for the blueliner. As a child he visited the Air Force Academy and took a picture with an Air Force hockey helmet. His dream of heading to play in Colorado Springs was planted as a child and his goal of skating with the Falcons is coming to fruition in the fall.

Farrell shares his excitement of joining the Falcons on social media.

“I am blessed and excited to announce my commitment to serve my country, play Division I College Hockey, and further my education at the Air Force Academy. I would like to thank God, my family, friends and coaches who have helped me along the way.”

Assistant coach of the Windigo, Bryce Reddick, went into detail on how deserving Farrell is of this opportunity.

“We are elated for Nate to receive an NCAA commitment to such a prestigious program. He puts in the work day in and day out. He more than deserves this opportunity to further his education and hockey career. He has been an absolute joy to work with since joining us at the deadline.

Farrell is the fifth member of the Wisconsin Windigo to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
