Aberdeen With The Puck Luck Against Watertown

Aberdeen 4 @ Watertown 3 (SO) - The Watertown Shamrocks donned their green but did not have the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day as they got pinched by the Aberdeen Wings, who emerged from the Ides of March victorious with a 4-3 shootout win on Monday afternoon. 81 total shots combined between both squads told the tale of the tape for the St. Patty’s Day tilt. After 20 minutes of feeling out in the first, both teams notched a pair of goals in the middle frame. Aberdeen broke the ice with their first tally as they allowed Watertown to sandwich a couple of their own goals before closing the period with the equalizer. Ryder Many Grey Horses and Nikolai Tishkevich buried for Aberdeen, while Brandt Dubey and Cam Markham got their names on the score sheet for Watertown. Markham’s seeing eye shot was a two-for-one powerplay special as the snipe marked the hot-handed scorer’s fourth straight game with a goal, while also giving Watertown their first lead of the season over Aberdeen. Watertown got back on top early in the third period with the help of Joseph Rice, but soon found themselves right back where they started as Sebastian Lillsund deadlocked the score at three to force overtime. While both sides had good looks, neither team was able to find an answer, resulting in a shootout. Owen was a good name to have in the shootout as both Owen Pitters and Owen Chartier converted on both their attempts for Aberdeen and Watertown in the shootout, but it was ultimately Lillsund who came through again for Aberdeen to seal the deal. Mason Gudridge had a solid outing for Watertown as he made 32 saves on 35 shots, but the win was secured by the tag-team play of Damon Cunningham, who made 31 saves on 34 shots for Aberdeen, and William Braun who stepped up for the end of overtime and clutched the shootout to come out on top.
