Sunday Wrap-Up: IceRays Win Rubber Match Against Mudbugs

Stepan Kuznetsov registered a hat trick in the win on Sunday
Rochester 4 @ Northeast 0 - A rare Sunday matchup saw the Rochester Jr Americans shutout the Northeast Generals. JC Humphreys began the scoring 6:56 into the second period, and a power play goal from Adam Gionta gave the Jr Americans a 2-0 lead entering the final period of regulation. Despite finding themselves on defense more in the third period due to being outshot by the Generals, the Jr Americans still picked up two more goals from Hugo Branthsson to earn the shutout victory to end the weekend. Ethan Phillips was credited with the shutout, stopping 27 shots.
Shreveport 2 @ Corpus Christi 7 - The Corpus Christi IceRays’ offense was too much for the Shreveport Mudbugs Sunday. The IceRays jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first with goals form Will Reardon and Stepan Kuznetsov, but Angel Lovecchio unassisted on the power play cut the lead to put the Mudbugs on the board. Carter Krenke with his goal 15 seconds later gave the IceRays a multi-goal lead back to end the first period. Foster Nichol brought the Mudbugs within one goal of tying the game to open the second with his goal, but the IceRays responded with two goals in three minutes from Kuznetsov and Nikita Konevych. Kuznetsov with ten seconds left in the second secured the hat trick with his third goal of the day on the power play. With a comfortable four goal lead in the third, the IceRays picked up one more goal: Cody Kempf adding his name to the stat sheet.
