Saturday Scores: Bobcats Heading Back to Postseason

Danbury 5 @ Maryland 4 (OT) - The Danbury Hat Tricks two days in a row won in overtime, again against the Maryland Black Bears Saturday. The lone goal in the first period came early, unassisted by Kai Elkie.The Hat Tricks took that momentum into the second period, doubling their lead with a Salvatore Cerrato goal. The Black Bears a few minutes later cut the lead in half thanks to Matthew Croxall, but after the halfway point the Hat Tricks exploded with two more goals from Joey Mallozzi and Luke Golisano for a 4-1 lead. Nonetheless, the period ended 4-2 in the Hat Tricks favor with a goal from Isac Nielsen to end the second. The third period looked to be scoreless, but the Black Bears miraculously tied the game with less than two minutes of regulation. Luke Janus and Nielsen’s second goal bringing it to overtime. The comeback didn’t end the night in victory however, as Brendan Boring who scored his second game winning goal in two nights.
Elmira 3 @ Johnstown 2 (SO) - After clawing back to force the game into overtime, the Elmira Aviators won the shootout against the Johnstown Tomahawks. The first two periods were largely a scoreless affair, the only goal from Cullen Emery 3:07 into regulation for a 1-0 Tomahawks lead. The next goal came a minute into the third period off a power play for the Aviators, attributed to Clarence Beltz. The game remained tied for only 12 seconds, as Adam Ondris gave the Tomahawks the lead once again. With the game seeming like a regulation loss for the Aviators, Matthew Maglio tied the game for the Aviators once again to bring it into overtime. With both teams in a shootout after a scoreless overtime, Curtiss Sturgeon won it for the Aviators after none of the three Tomahawks shooters managed to score.
Maine 1 @ New Jersey 3 - Limiting the Maine Nordiques to one goal on 43 shots helped the New Jersey Devils avoid the series sweep. The first period was fairly equal in shots, but both teams left scoreless after the buzzer. The Nordiques then drew first blood in the second, with Kellen Murphy finding the back of the net. Down a goal needing an offensive spark, the Titans tied the game early thanks to Lucas Marshall. At the halfway point, Alex Papaspyropoulos gave the Titans the lead, and James Taylor unassisted scored the dagger on the Nordiques to earn the series split.
Rochester 10 @ Northeast 2 - The Rochester Jr Americans scored goals from eight different players Saturday evening against the Northeast Generals. The Jr Americans jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes after goals from Owen King and Landon Brownlee, but Rich Rucireto of the Generals 28 seconds later brought the game back within one. Adam Gionta a minute-and-a-half later brought the lead back up to two, to get his eighth point in the last four games. After Ethan Coots’ first goal of the season and Ryan Shaw unassisted in the final minute, it was 5-1 Jr Americans after 20 minutes. It was Brownlee’s turn in the second period to begin the scoring with his second goal of the night, with Cole Mckenna on the power play trying to stop the bleeding for the Generals with his own goal after. Shaw, like the first, ended the second period with another goal. The Jr Americans only notched eight shots on goal in the final period, but still managed to score three goals from Keanan Dewberry, Calle Karlsson, and Jaden Dyke to end the offensive onslaught with a victory.
North Iowa 1 @ Watertown 7 - The Watertown Shamrocks going 3/5 on the power play Saturday propelled them to victory over the North Iowa Bulls. A one goal Bulls lead from Sangyeob Kim only lasted nine minutes, until William Shephard put the Shamrocks on the board with less than a minute in regulation. Back-to-back power play goals would follow in the second period, the first from Ryan Gingher, followed by Cam Markham. A 3-1 lead in the period quickly spiraled into 5-1, after Antons Macijevskis scored at 7:26, and Gingher late in the period scored his second of the night. With the game out of hand and the Shamrocks focusing on defense, they still picked up two more goals from Spencer Sasenbury on the power play and Dmitrijs Dilevka adding to the total to finish the game.
Chippewa 6 @ Wisconsin 3 - It was the Chippewa Steel’s turn to rain down goals Saturday, getting payback against the Wisconsin Windigo for nine goals the day before. The Windigo took the lead first, going up 2-0 after 11 minutes with goal from team-leader Braydon Beahm and Luke Baker. Connor Jalbert with just over a minute left cut the lead in half with the Steel’s first goal of the game. In the second period, Sam Schulte tied the game for the Steel with his first goal of the season, followed seven minutes later by Tomas Trunda to give the Steel the lead. The Windigo didn’t tie the game back until 4:11 into the third period thanks to Ben Aucoin, but it was for nothing as the Steel ran with the lead after taking it two minutes later with a Colton Mauser goal. Matic Percic and Shulte with his second of the game ended it for a series sweep for the Steel.
El Paso 4 @ Oklahoma 2 - A three goal deficit in the first period wasn’t enough for the Oklahoma Warriors to overcome against the El Paso Rhinos Saturday. Andrew DellaDonna, who scored the game winning goal in the Rhinos’ shootout victory, scored two more goals in the first eight minutes of regulation. That was followed by Brendan Coughlin at 14:26 to give the Rhinos their three goal lead after the period. Trent Burlison put the Warriors on the board 7:33 in the second, and the Rhinos took the three goal lead back late in the period with Kyle Arias finding the back of the net. Despite the Warriors getting a power play goal in the third after a cross-ice pass saw Ben Likness cut the lead to two goals, they failed to score the rest of the way as the Rhinos held strong for the win.
Minnesota W 4 @ Janesville 0 - In a repeat of last night, the Minnesota Wilderness shutout the Janesville Jets in a hard fought victory. Both team’s offenses failed to produce anything in the first period, until Frantisek Netusil scored on the power play with 12 seconds remaining to end the period 1-0. Heading into the second period, Landon Cottingham began the scoring first with a goal at 4:18, with the next goal coming six minutes later with River Freeman on the power play. Even coming back with even numbers, the Wilderness scored 22 seconds later with Logan Nagle, ending the scoring for both teams to end the second. It was Wilderness goaltender Niklas Erickson’s turn to get the shutout tonight, stopping all 33 shots faced.
St. Cloud 2 @ Aberdeen 4 - Four separate goal scorers powered the Aberdeen Wings to a weekend split with the St. Cloud Norsemen, defeating the Norsemen by a final of 4-2 on Saturday night. The first would be all Aberdeen, as goals from Grant Winkler and Jack McDonough gave them a two goal lead after 20 minutes. St. Cloud would get one back in the second from Tyler Wishart, to cut the lead in half heading into the final frame. In the third, Wishart would get one back to tie the game, but two late goals from Jibber Kuhl and Bryce Johnson sealed the win for Aberdeen.
Austin 1 @ Bismarck 4 - Four separate goal scorers gave the Bismarck Bobcats a weekend sweep over the Austin Bruins by a final of 4-1. In the second, goals from Calle Arvedson, Ollie Chessler, and Matthew Rafalski staked the Bobcats to a 3-0 lead after two periods. Gavin Hruza would get one back early in the third, but Tommy Cronin would seal the win for the Bobcats.
Lone Star 1 @ Odessa 4 - A pair of goals from Christian Tavare sealed a weekend split for the Odessa Jackalopes, defeating the Lone Star Brahmas by a final of 4-1. The lone goal of the first belonged to Charlie Smith for the Jackalopes. In the second, the Jackalopes lead grew to three, thanks to Tavare. In the third, Owen Kerr would get one back for Lone Star, but Jack L’Esperance sealed the win for the Jackalopes.
Amarillo 2 @ New Mexico 3 - A pair of goals from Toivo Laaksonen sealed a weekend sweep for the New Mexico Ice Wolves, defeating the Amarillo Wranglers by a final of 3-2. Teams would trade goals in the first, Laaksonen for the Ice Wolves and Marc LaFrance for Amarillo. In the second, teams would trade goals once again, with Andrew Earl for New Mexico and Morley Phillips for Amarillo. In the third, Laaksonen would score his second of the game to give the Ice Wolves the win.
Shreveport 2 @ Corpus Christi 3 (OT) - Once again, 60 minutes would not be enough, this time Max Ranstrom would be the overtime hero for the Corpus Christi IceRays, defeating the Shreveport Mudbugs by a final of 3-2. In the first, it would be all Shreveport, as goals from Andrew Seminara and Jonah Jasser on the penalty shot, staked the visitors to an early two goal lead after 20 minutes. In the second, Grayson Gerhard would get one back for the IceRays, and late in the third, Stepan Kuznetsov would tie the game to send it to overtime, where Ranstrom would be the overtime hero.
Minnesota M 1 @ Minot 5 - A pair of goals from Gavin Middendorf powered the Minot Minotauros to a 5-1 win over the Minnesota Mallards, securing a weekend sweep. The teams would trade goals in the first, Jordan Brothers for the Mallards and Ian Spencer for Minot. In the second, a pair of goals from Middendorf and Jack O’Hanisain staked a two goal lead for the Minotauros heading into the final frame. In the third, Jesse Juhola and Middendorf would each score to seal the dominant victory.
Anchorage 7 @ Fairbanks 3 - A third period hat trick from Daniel Bagnole sealed a 7-3 victory for the Anchorage Wolverines over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Saturday night. In the second, goals from Romulus Riego De Dios, Andrew Karkoc, and Samuel Evert gave the Wolverines a two goal lead heading into the third, after Caden Pendo got one back. In the third, Toby Carlson and the Bagnole hat trick sealed the win, as goals from Kyle Rohrer and Arsenii Vorobev would be too little too late.
Springfield 4 @ Kenai River 1 - A pair of goals from Cruz Martin would be enough for the Springfield Jr. Blues to earn their second win of the weekend over the Kenai River Brown Bears by a final of 4-1 on Saturday night. Goals in the first from Aidan Hickok and Luke Sawicky for Springfield, and Luke Hause for Kenai, gave the visitors the lead after 20 minutes. The lone goal of the second belonged to Cruz Martin, and that doubled the visitors lead heading into the final frame, where Martin would get his second of the night to seal the victory for Springfield.
