The Minnesota Mallards of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Zane Spaniol has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Air Force Academy in the Atlantic.
The 6’3 netminder from Ham Lake, Minnesota is heading to fly with the Falcons next fall in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Spaniol has played in 25 matchups this season for the Mallards. He is a hometown kid of the squad, living 20 minutes from the rink. Prior to playing with the Mallards, he played in the CCHL with the Brockville Braves in 33 games for the 2023-2024 season.
Spaniol shares his excitement to fly, fight, and win next season.
“I am so excited and honored to announce my commitment to continue my education, serve my country, and play Division I hockey at the United States Air Force Academy. Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, advisor, teammates, and everyone who has helped me over the years. Thank you to the Air Force staff for this incredible opportunity!”
Head coach of the Mallards, Jake Johnson, shares his excitement for Spaniol’s opportunity.
“We are incredibly proud of Zane for his commitment to the Air Force. His dedication, work ethic, and leadership have been outstanding, and this opportunity is well-deserved. The Air Force is getting not only a talented goaltender, but also a great teammate and person. We look forward to seeing him continue his success at the next level.”
