Saturday Scores: Rochester Makes Statement

Maine 0 @ Rochester 7 - The Rochester Jr. Americans continue their dominance, stomping the Maine Nordiques in a 7-0 shutout victory. Jaden Dyke scored the lone goal of the opening period, before Calle Karlsson, Adam Gionta, and Liam Chapman each tallied one to extend Rochester’s lead. The Jr. Americans lit the lamp three more times in the final period, courtesy of Owen King, Keanan Dewberry, and Gionta.. Danick Leroux proved to be perfect in the crease, blanking the Maine in his 18-save performance.

New Jersey 1 @ Johnstown 3 - The Johnstown Tomahawks survive a late comeback attempt en route to a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Titans Saturday night. Cullen Emery got the scoring started for Johnstown, before Markas Samenas lit the lamp to extend Johnstown’s lead. Heading into the third, New Jersey looked to do some damage, as Owen Leahy put them within one with just 51 seconds remaining. However, time proved to be a factor, as Nick White sealed the deal with an empty netter to secure a Tomahawks win. Zack Ferris was excellent in net, padding away 22/23.

Janesville 3 @ Springfield 4 - A late goal propels the Janesville Jets to a 4-3 victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues. The Jets took a commanding three-goal lead to begin the game, thanks to goals from Andon Coles, Jagur McClelland, and Logan Ganz. However, the Jets quickly came back with a trio of their own, courtesy of Sammy Smith, John Brown, and Hans Hedlund. With just 1:09 remaining in regulation, Owen Lowe hit the back of the net to secure the win for the Jr. Blues in this exciting matchup.

Danbury 4 @ Northeast 3 (SO) - The Northeast Generals erased a three-goal deficit to even the score, however just fell short 4-3 versus the Danbury Hat Tricks. Ameen Ghosheh, Isaac Mitchell, and Alexis Billequey each saw shots hit the back of the net in the first period to give the Hat Tricks a commanding advantage. However, a pair of goals from William-Francisco Parent and Grady Logue would Northeast within one heading into the third. There, Rich Rucireto lit the lamp to tie the game.  Following a scoreless overtime, Danbury secured the shootout victory to take the extra point. Tyler Spokane was outstanding in net, padding away 43/46 in the win.

Elmira 0 @ Maryland 4 - The Maryland Black Bears blanked the Elmira Aviators 4-0 to earn a shutout victory Saturday night. Mason Stenger got things rolling, netting the lone goal of the first. From there, Harrison Smith, Luke Janus, and Riley Fast each lit the lamp in the second to further the Black Bears lead. Backed by Marko Billic’s perfect night in the crease, the 4-0 score held true as Maryland secured the shutout victory.  

New Hampshire 1 @ Philadelphia 3 - The Philadelphia Rebels defeated the New Hampshire Mountain Kings 3-1 Saturday night. Ruslan Jamaldinov opened the scoring, followed by Luke Janviriya to give the Rebels an early lead, Jaden Johnson quickly cut the lead in half for New Hampshire, before Caesar Bjork sealed the deal for Philadelphia. Owen Crudale stood tall in the crease, stopping 32/33 in the win.    

Minot 5 @ Watertown 2 - A four goal opening period helps the Minot Minotauros power over the Watertown Shamrocks 5-2. Cam Markham tallied one for the Shamrocks to open the scoring, however from there it was all Minot. John Small and Davin Nichols each lit the lamp, before Ian Spencer hit the back of the net twice. From there, Justin Bartley put Watertown within one, but Parker Newman was able to close it out for the Minotauros with a late third period goal. Lukas Swedin earned the victory with his 22-save performance.

St. Cloud 4 @ Minnesota M 1 - The St. Cloud Norsemen dominate the shot sheet 38-15 en route to their 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Mallards. Sam Kartch lit the lamp to get the action rolling for St. Cloud, before Hudson Blue tacked one on to extend their lead. Blue then tallied another one, as Brady Borgestad then got the Mallards on the board midway through the third. However, Tyler Greyer secured the victory with a late goal for the Norsemen as they won this once 4-1. Despite only facing 15 shots, Damian Slavik was near perfect in net.

Wisconsin 5 @ Chippewa 2 - The Wisconsin Windigo scored twice in the first period to get off to a fast start on Saturday night. And the visiting Windigo did not let up after jumping out to an early lead. In fact, they doubled their lead in the second period to enter the final frame with a 4-0 cushion. The hosting Chippewa Steel did make an effort to generate some offense in the third period. They outshot Wisconsin 10-7 in the period and scored twice. However, Wisconsin held on to skate away with a 5-2 victory away from home to kick off the month of February.

Colorado 2 @ Shreveport 3 (SO) - The Colorado Grit and Shreveport Mudbugs went at it early in the game on Saturday. They both scored twice to enter the first intermission tied 2-2. After that, though, the game slowed down significantly. Both teams were able to find shooting lanes, but neither team could break through. In fact, a goal was not scored in regulation or overtime. A shootout was required to break the deadlock, and the hosting Mudbugs claimed victory in the end. Kyan Haldenby and Gleb Akimov scored in the shootout to lift Shreveport over Colorado on Saturday.

Austin 1 @ Aberdeen 0 - The Austin Bruins and Aberdeen Wings played a tightly contested game on Saturday night. The teams combined for nine power play opportunities, giving each other ample opportunities to find the back of the net. However, only one player was able to solve a goaltender. Bruins forward Luc Malkhassian scored at 15:31 in the second period to give Austin a win on the road. Goaltender Carl Axelsson stopped all 21 shots he faced to record a shutout victory on Saturday.

North Iowa 2 @ Bismarck 3 (SO) - The Bismarck Bobcats started off on the right foot on Saturday night when hosting the North Iowa Bulls. Louie Kamienski scored his 17th goal of the season to give his team a 1-0 lead around 13 minutes into the game. Things continued going well enough as North Iowa failed to score for two periods. However, two goals for the Bulls in the third period flipped things on its head. But just as quickly as they flipped, the game was level again. These teams needed a shootout to settle their differences. Bismarck scored two quick goals to claim victory in the shootout on Saturday.

Odessa 2 @ New Mexico 4 - The New Mexico Ice Wolves played host to the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday night. And they got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first period. Unfortunately, their lead did not last as Odessa tied things up in the second period. The hosting Ice Wolves got the last laugh, however. They reclaimed the lead by the end of the second and added an insurance marker in the third to claim a 4-2 victory. Forwards Andrew Earl and Toivo Laaksonen each scored a goal and added an assist in the win on Saturday night.

Corpus Christi 2 @ Lone Star 5 - It was an all-Texas affair on Saturday as the Corpus Christi IceRays faced off with the Lone Star Brahmas. Lone Star gained the upper hand over their opponent, taking a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. It was a lead the Brahmas would never relinquish. Lone Star scored once in the second and twice in the third to skate away with a 5-2 win. Four players for the Brahmas recorded two point games, displaying the team’s offensive depth in front of the home crowd.

Amarillo 4 @ El Paso 2 - The Amarillo Wranglers fell behind the eight ball on Saturday night against the El Paso Rhinos. The Rhinos scored twice in the first period to make it a 2-0 game with around five minutes remaining in the opening frame. However, the Wranglers refused to roll over. They scored at the end of the opening frame to gain some momentum. And they went on to score another three goals unanswered to cap off a 4-2 come-from-behind victory. Kirill Evstigneev scored two goals for the Wranglers to lead the effort on Saturday.

Fairbanks 3 @ Anchorage 4 - Cole Frawner’s second period goal was the difference as the Anchorage Wolverines finished off the sweep of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, winning on Saturday 4-3. Cam VanSickle and Cole Christian traded goals before Rylan Oster and Andrew Karkoc did the same to end the opening frame tied at two. Karkoc scored his second goal of the evening but Luc Plante tied the game midway through the second with his seventh of the year. That set the stage for Frawner’s eventual game winner. Michael Manzi scored the win in net needing just 15 saves. Mason McElroy was given the loss after making 26 stops.

Minnesota 3 @ Kenai River 2 (OT) - Frantisek Netusil’s overtime goal capped off a comeback for the Minnesota Wilderness and ended their seven game losing streak. Kenai River led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play as Luke Hause and Brady Engelkes netted goals for the Brown Bears. Logan Nagle started the comeback late in the second period with his fifth goal of the campaign. Avery Anderson tied the game at two with just over four minutes to play in regulation. Netusil’s 21st of the year 56 seconds into the overtime period sent the Wilderness bench into a frenzy as they capped off their Alaska trip with a victory. Niklas Erickson was the winner in goal as he had 23 saves. Mitchell McCusker suffered the loss, stopping 22 opportunities.
