Saturday Scores: Brown Bears Comeback Late to Finish Sweep
Odessa 2 @ Colorado 4 - Luke Helgeson and Sheldon Rioux each had a goal and an assist as the Colorado Grit doubled up the Odessa Jackalopes by a score of 4-2. Evan Smutney and Lucca Ori also got on the scoresheet for Colorado. Caden Morgan and Shea Barry provided the offense for Odessa in a losing effort. Nolan Francis stopped 34 shots in the win for the Grit while Benjamin Vatis took the loss after stopping 27 shots.
New Hampshire 3 @ Johnstown 7 - Adam Ondris scored twice and added a helper while Charlie Zetterkvist had a goal and two assists in the Tomahawks 7-3 win over the Mountain Kings. Nick Jarmain notched a goal and an assist while Caden Olenczak, Cullen Emery and Nick White all took a trip to the red light district. Kim Hilmersson led New Hampshire with two goals and an assist. Alex Gelhar also scored for the Mountain Kings. Zack Ferris was the winner in goal with 25 saves to his credit. Sam Caulfield was the loser in goal as he ended the night with 19 stops.
Philadelphia 0 @ Maine 4 - Four different players got on the scoresheet for the Maine Nordiques as they blanked the Philadelphia Rebels 4-0. Nick Hubbard was a perfect 19 for 19 in net for Maine to pick up his first shutout of the year. Shane Kozlina, Michael Stenberg, Alexandre Pellerin and Kellen Murphy all potted goals for the Nordiques. Owen Crudale and Anthony Skier teamed up to make 30 saves for Philadelphia.
Danbury 2 @ New Jersey 3 - Ryan Friedman’s goal in the third period was the difference as the New Jersey Titans edged the Danbury Hat Tricks 3-2. David Utkin opened the scoring for Danbury less than a minute into the action. The Titans responded with goals from Nikolai Meshkantsov and Alex Papaspyropoulos. Danbury would tie it with a goal from Niko Tournas before Friedman’s game winner. Charlie Mistretta was the winner in between the pipes as he stopped 34 shots. Ryan Crowshaw was dealt the loss as he wound up with 37 stops.
Maryland 5 @ Northeast 2 - A four goal second period led the Maryland Black Bears to a 5-2 win over the Northeast Generals. Harrison Smith, Victor Mannebratt, Kareem El Bashir and Thomas Holby all scored in the middle frame for Maryland while Tanner Duncan struck in the third period for the Black Bears. William-Francisco Parent and Benjamin Campeau were the goal scorers for the Generals.
Rochester 4 @ Elmira 3 - Two shorthanded goals by Adam Gionta including the game winner in the third period helped lifted the Jr. Americans to a win over the Elmira Aviators. Rochester never led until Gionta’s second goal of the night with just 7:29 left in regulation. Landon Brownlee and Owen King helped the Jr. Americans erase one goal deficits in the contest. Clarence Beltz, Luke Sakala and Matthew Maglio found the back of the net for Elmira. Danick Leroux would grab the win in goal with 15 saves. Ty Levy was stuck with the loss as he stopped 34 chances.
Wisconsin 5 @ Springfield 1 - Five different Windigo players scored for Wisconsin as they took care of the Jr. Blues by a score of 5-1. Logan Nickolaus scored in the opening frame. Declan Burns and Feliz Haibock netted goals in the second period before Braydon Beam and Mario DiMaggio added insurance in the third period. Aidan Hickok tallied the only goal for Springfield in the loss. Beau Altman got the win in the blue paint as he made 21 stops. Fran Murphy suffered the loss in net as he made 34 saves.
St. Cloud 7 @ North Iowa 3 - It was all St. Cloud early and often as the Norsemen took down North Iowa by score of 7-3. The Norsemen owned the open 20 as two goals from Mason Lebel and a tally from Matins Klaucans gave them a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes left of play. Wyatt Farrell, Hudson Blue and Tyler Wishart scored in the second period. Wishart added his second of the night to cap off the night. Evan Johnson netted two goals and Sangyeob Kim ended up on the scoresheet for North Iowa. Beck Liden was given the win as he made 23 saves on the evening while Jack Hirshorn and Kyle Ozgun combined to make 20 saves for the the Bulls.
Shreveport 4 @ Oklahoma 0 - Nikola Goich stopped all 29 shots he faced as he picked up his fourth shutout of the year as the Mudbugs blanked the Oklahoma Warriors 4-0. Gleb Akimov and David Ehrhard got Shreveport out to a 2-0 lead. Carter McKay added two goals of his own in the final minutes to secure the victory. Billy Stuski took the loss in net for Oklahoma as he stopped 33 shots.
Bismarck 1 @ Minnesota M 2 - Dakotah Bailey’s third period goal was the difference as the Minnesota Mallards upset the Bismarck Bobcats 2-1. Tommy Cronin broke the scoreless tie with a power play tally eight minutes into the second period. Minnesota responded with a power play goal of their own off the stick of Hunter Hayes to even the game at one, Then in the third, a broken play led Drew Beasley to find Bailey on the back door for the tap in game winning goal. Hunter Bauer was sensational as he finished with 38 saves to earn the win in between the pipes. Kai Weigel was saddled with the loss, he made 20 stops.
Aberdeen 0 @ Austin 4 - Carl Axelsson was a brick wall, stopping all 41 shots fired in his direction as the Austin Bruins knocked off the Aberdeen Wings 4-0. Luc Malkhassian had two goals and two assists to lead the offensive attack for the Bruins. Alex Laurenz had a goal and two helpers while EJ Paddington also chipped in a goal and an assist. Willum Braun took the loss in net as he stopped 32 of 36 shots faced.
Chippewa 3 @ Janesville 0 - Devin Shakar was a perfect 27 of 27 as he earned his third shutout of the season in Chippewa’s 3-0 win over Janesville. George Peterson, Patrick Vogl and Jacob Ligi got on the scoresheet for the Steel in the win. Janesville netminder Christian Kirsch made 32 saves in a losing effort.
El Paso 4 @ Amarillo 2 - Two goals from Rasmus Nousiainen led the El Paso offense as they doubled up the Amarillo Wranglers 4-2. Benjamin Winkelmann and Harper Lolacher also found the back of the net for the Rhinos. The comeback attempt for Amarillo came up short as Nolan Mix and Jake Boulanger scored goals for the Wranglers. Salvatore Cerrato had assists on both goals. Logan Hughes was the winner in the blue paint as he stopped 33 shots. Charles-Antonie Girard stopped 25 shots for the Wranglers.
Watertown 2 @ Minot 3 - Braeden Jockims first goal as a Minotauro was the difference as Minot finished off the sweep of Watertown with a 3-2 win on Saturday night. After a scoreless first period, all the scoring came in the second. John Small got Minot out to the lead with his 17th of the year. Watertown responded with two goals in 95 seconds as Alexander Visnapuu netted his first of the season and Zach Boren scored his fourth. Gavin Middendorf potted his 19th just 35 seconds after Watertown took the lead before Jockims netted the final goal of the game about five minutes later. Lukas Swedin earned the victory for Minot as he had 24 saves. Phileas Lachat stopped 26 shots for the Shamrocks.
Kenai River 4 @ Anchorage 3 (SO) - The Brown Bears finished off an epic comeback to keep their playoff hopes alive as they beat the Anchorage Wolverines 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night. Trailing 3-1 with about three minutes remaining, Luke Lizak scored his fifth of the season to bring Kenai River within one. 14 seconds later William Esterbrooks tied the game at three with his fourth goal of the year. In the shootout, only Samuel Sisik scored and that would be enough to give the Brown Bears the win. Andrew Larson finished with a goal for Kenai River. Taisetsu Ushio had a pair of goals while Jackson Stimple had one for Anchorage in the loss. Mitchell McCusker stopped 38 shots and all three shooters in the skills competition to earn the win in goal. Michael Manzi suffered the loss as he ended the night with 23 saves.
Minnesota W 1 @ Fairbanks 5 - Cam VanSickle scored twice as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs beat the Minnesota Wilderness 5-1. Caden Pendo, Gage Leonard and Luc Plante all got on the scoreboard as well for the Ice Dogs. Nate Murray provided the lone goal for the Wilderness. Charlie Menard was nearly perfect as he stopped 36 of 37 shots. Valdemar Anderson and Niklas Erickson teamed up to make 23 saves for Minnesota.
