Sunday Wrap Up: Warriors Win Thriller Over IceRays

Oklahoma 7 @ Corpus Christi 6 (SO) - The Oklahoma Warriors earned a thrilling shootout victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays Sunday afternoon. The Warriors opened the scoring with Caden Mech finding the back of the net early on in the period. The IceRays answered back with Cooper Conway and Will Reardon netting back-to-back goals to give Corpus the lead. The Warriors retaliated late in the period with goals from Louie Kamineski and Ben Likeness bringing the game to a tie at the end of the first. Gleb Ushakov found the back of the net just 2 minutes into the second period to give Oklahoma a brief lead. The IceRays fought back with goals from Pierson Sobush, Conway, and Troy Pelton to gain a one-goal advantage by the end of the period. In the third period, Sobush netted his second goal of the night to increase Corpus’ lead, but the Warriors refused to back down. Travis Bryson and Nate Farell both scored goals forcing the game into overtime. After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout where Kyle Sorenson netted the game winning goal to secure the win for the Warriors. Oklahoma’s goaltender Billy Stuski stopped 29 out of the 35 shots he faced, while Corpus Christi’s netminder Vlad Bryzgalov made 23 saves on 29 shots.
Maine 5 @ Danbury 2 - The Maine Nordiques claimed a strong victory at home over the Danbury Hat Tricks on Sunday evening. Luke Chappell kicked off the night’s scoring, netting a goal for the Nordiques late in the first period. In the second period, Wade Weil and Cameron Smith both found the back of the net bringing the score to 3-0 Maine heading into the third period. Danbury attempted a comeback in the third period with Niko Tournas finding the back of the net and Kai Elkie capitalizing on a power play. Their comeback fell short with Maine’s Micheal Stenberg and Laurent Trepainer scoring goals to seal the Nordiques’ 5-2 victory. The Nordiques’ goaltender Carter Richardson saved 32 out of the 34 shots he faced, while the Hat Tricks’ Ryan Crowshaw made 35 saves out of 40 shots.
