Anchorage Goaltender Makar makes NCAA DIII Commitment

January 3, 2025

The Anchorage Wolverines of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Vaughn Makar has committed to play NCAA Division III for St. Norbert College in the NCHA next semester.

Hometown goaltender of the Anchorage Wolverines, Makar is heading to Wisconsin to join the Green Knights for the spring semester. This season marks his second year with the Anchorage Wolverines. In his seven games played this year he has a .883 save percentage and a 3.478 goals against average. The ‘04 netminder last season played in 18 games for the Wolverines and featured a .909 save percentage and 2.936 goals against average.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to play at St. Norbert College starting this January,” said Makar. “I am grateful for my time with the Anchorage Wolverines and to the coaches, staff and owners.”

Head coach of the Wolverines, Nick Walters, explains Makar’s dedication and perseverance in his hockey playing career.

"Vaughn’s commitment to St. Norbert College certainly isn’t the way you draw it up or the traditional route most of our players take, but it's a great opportunity for Vaughn to join a top tier program. By losing Vaughn, we not only lose a great veteran goaltender, but also an amazing human and unbelievable teammate who does things the right way on and off the ice. With goaltending being the backbone or our team and what he brings inside the locker room, those are tough things to replace. When speaking with Vaughn about the opportunity, we wanted to make sure it checked all the boxes: hockey, academics, and social side of things. The program met everything that he was looking for, so it was a no-brainer for him. His hard work and perseverance the last two years has opened up this door for him. We wish him the best of luck and I know the whole team will be cheering him on as he turns the page to start the next chapter at the next level.”

Makar is the seventh member of the Anchorage Wolverines to make a college ice hockey commitment.
