Friday Finals: Soderbom Lifts IceRays to Seventh Straight Win

The top dogs in the South Division kept pace as the IceRays and Brahmas won after regulation

Janesville 7 @ Chippewa 3 - Noah Gibbs scored twice and added an assist as the Janesville Jets took down the Chippewa Steel 7-3. Sammy Smith potted a goal and an assist while Rhett Kodsi, Hans Hedlund, Nick Messina and Jayar Luedke all got on the scoresheet for the Jets. Tomas Trunda netted two goals for the Steel while Ryder McIntosh also got on the board. Jacob Ligi had three assists for the Steel. Matthew Alberti was the winner in goal with 41 saves while Devin Shakar was saddled with the loss, stopping 14 shots.

Lone Star 5 @ Amarillo 4 (SO) - Cooper Faughnan scored the game deciding goal in the shootout to lift the Lone Star Brahmas over the Amarillo Wranglers 5-4. Lone Star had a brilliant opening period, jumping out to a 3-0 lead as Sexton Tess scored twice and Elias Kumlin netted a goal of his own. Will Wellburn scored before the end of the first 20 minutes to salvage the opening frame. Andrew Morton would help Amarillo tie it up at three with back to back goals in the second period. However, Camden Prier would put the Brahmas back in front with his fourth of the year. Amarillo would come back again as Alexander Aleslov scored his fifth of the season. Jack Spicer earned the win in goal with 26 saves. Charles-Antoine Girard and Charlie Zolin combined for 29 stops.

Shreveport 3 @ Corpus Christi 4 (OT) - The Corpus Christi IceRays only lead of the evening came in overtime as Matteus Soderbom scored the game winning goal to beat the Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3. After a scoreless opening period, The teams went back to back with goals as Brent Litchard scored twice while Will Reardon and Cody Kempf notched goals for the IceRays. Litchard would complete the hat trick for Shreveport but Reardon’s second of the game tied it up once again. That would set the stage for Soderbom’s game winner. Vlad Bryzgalov stopped 33 shots to grab the win in net. Nikola Goich stopped 29 shots in the loss for the Mudbugs.

Oklahoma 2 @ Colorado 6 - A big first period was all that was needed for the Grit as they beat the Warriors 6-2. After Sebastian Speck opening the scoring for Oklahoma, the Grit responded with four goals in the next 10 minutes. Alexander German, Alec Babineau, George Poirier and Luc Bydal all picked up goals for Colorado. Joey DeRosa brought them within two but William Johnson scored twice for Colorado to put the game away. Jack Erickson was the winner in between the pipes as he had 25 saves for the Grit. Billy Stuski and Kyle Jones combined to make 28 saves for Oklahoma.
