Chippewa Goaltender Shakar makes NCAA DI Commitment
The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Devin Shakar has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Brown University in the ECAC.
Shakar is an essential piece of the Chippewa Steel roster. Out of the 11 wins that the Steel have on the season, 10 of those wins come with Shakar between the pipes. The 19-year-old from New York is in his first season in the NAHL. So far this season he has put together a .901 save percentage and a 2.767 goals against average.
“I am excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career by playing Division I hockey at Brown University,” said Shakar. “I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates who have helped make this possible.”
Head coach of the Chippewa Steel, Chris Ratzloff, shares about the excitement the squad had for Shakar’s commitment to Brown.
“When our goalie coach, Dan Hoehne, told the team before practice this morning, the boys went nuts. We are all very excited for the opportunity Devin has with his commitment to Brown. Devin is a team first guy. He shows up early and works out after practice, always pushing himself and teammates to be the best every day. Devin has been outstanding since he joined us, giving us a chance to win every time he is in the net. We look forward to seeing his continued success with the Steel and after.”
Shakar is the fifth member of the Chippewa Steel to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
