Saturday Scores: Tomahawks Pull Off Comeback to Complete Sweep

Maryland 3 @ Johnstown 4 (OT) - The Johnstown Tomahawks completed the weekend sweep over the Maryland Black Bears as they picked up a 4-3 win on Saturday night. 60 minutes was not enough for this match as the deciding goal was scored in overtime for the Tomahawks. Maryland came out of the gates dominating with goals early and often. Luke Rubin struck first to put Maryland on the board with a goal less than a minute into the first period, followed by Sebastian Brockman and Markas Samenas in the second. After allowing three unanswered strikes, Johnstown struck back with three straight goals of their own off the sticks of Sam Blanton, Tate Pecknold and Adam Ondris. Tied at three a piece at the end of regulation, overtime did not last long as Ondris one-upped his third period success of scoring the game tying goal by scoring the game winning goal. Maryland put 45 pucks on net, but their offense just fell short to Johnstowns’s Zack Ferris who made an astounding 42 saves, while Benji Motew made 19 saves on 23 shots on the other end of the ice.
Philadelphia 1 @ New Jersey 5 - The New Jersey Titans got their get-back over the Philedlphia Rebels with a decisive 5-1 win on Saturday night. Offense on the night was all New Jersey as the Titans scored five unanswered goals spread throughout three periods. Five different skaters got their names on the score sheet for New Jersey, including Owen Leahy, James Schneid, Logan Renkowski, Lachlan Haegar and Jack Hiller. Haegar’s tally was his first of the season and his career with New Jersey as Saturday’s matchup was just his third game with the team. Thomas Neu was able to find the back fo the net late in the third period, but his score would ultimately make no difference in the lopsided loss. Charlie Mistretta stayed busy but sharp making 33 saves on 34 shots for New Jersey in the win. Anthony Sciere recorded 23 saves on 28 shots, but was eventually replaced by Beau Lane who made a perfect 7 saves on 7 shots to finish the game for Philadelphia.
Maine 2 @ Northeast 6 - The Northeast Generals dealt the Maine Nordiques a rare loss as they prevailed with a 6-2 win on Saturday night. Northeast led in many categories on the evening, including goals, penalty minutes and number of different scorers, while Maine led in power play attempts with a resounding 10 man advantages. The love was spread well amongst Northeast, with goals coming from Cole Mckenna, Frank D’Ancona, Rich Rucierto, John Halverson and Kai Dunits. Maine got tallies from Damon Myers and Connor Mcnaughton. Ryan Nolen stood on his head for Northeast amassing 41 saves on 43 shots, while Carter Richardson allowed six goals as he made 24 saves on 30 shots.
Elmira 6 @ Rochester 0 - The Elmira Aviators blanked the Rochester Jr. Americans with a dominant 6-0 win on Saturday night. Elmira had their way with Rochester on offense, defense and goaltending. Bryce Terry tallied a couple goals in the first period to put Elmira up 2-0. Goals in pairs was the second theme of the evening, in addition to Elmira domination. Alexis Billequey and Cooper Eberhardt scored their pair in the second period, while Andrew DellaDonna and Matthew Magilo put their pair up in the third. Rochester did lead in shots and penalty minutes, but Elmira led in the most important category, goals. Andrew Ness was perfect for Elmira to capture the goose egg with 37 saves on 37 shots, while Florian Wade made 22 saves on 28 shots in the loss for Rochester
Watertown 3 @ St. Cloud 4 (OT) - The St. Cloud Norsemen overpowered the Watertown Shamrocks in overtime to come away with a 4-3 victory on Saturday evening. After a scoreless first period, Bronson Hunt broke the ice as he buried the puck in the back of the net early in the second period to put the Norsemen up 1-0. Mason Lebel followed suit nearly 10 minutes later with a score of his own to double the Norsemen’s lead to a 2-0 score. Owen Chariter was able to respond for Watertown to get the Shamrocks on the board and go into the locker room only down by a goal. Entering the final frame, Tim Runtso collected his fourth goal of the year to put the Norsemen up 3-1, but Holden Carter notched his first to cut the lead back down to a single goal. With just 40 seconds left, Kody Moyer was able to equalize for Watertown as the Shamrocks put all their chips in and emptied the net for an empty skater. Their gamble was successful and forced ovetime. However, a critically timed triipping minor from the ingaural scorer Chartier sealed the Shamrocks’ fate as Runtso scored his second goal of the night on the powerplay to secure the win for St. Cloud. Both teams were able to relatively stay out of the box with only eight penalty minutes for Watertown and six penalty minutes for St. Cloud. Both Watertown and St. Cloud goaltenders Owen Lunneburg and Conner Roff finished regulation with 21 saves on 24 shots, but Lunnberg faced a firestorm of shots in the short overtime. Lunnebug was able to turn six shots aside, but eventually allowed one to sneak past him as the Norsemen got their revenge from Friday night’s loss.
Janesville 4 @ Chippewa 3 - During the first, Janesville’s Joseph Hyten made a goal assisted by Sullivan Miller and Rylan Brady. James Taylor increased the lead with help from Brady and Noah Gibbs. In the second, Jackson Lackas scored with assists from Gavin Middendorf and Jacob Ligi putting the Steel on the board. In the third, Lackas got an unassisted goal. Miller assisted by Brady and Garrett Frazer scored a goal for the Jets. Sammy Smith added another goal for the Jets with help from Jacob Eilers and Thomas Enrietto. Hunter Whisenand assisted by Lukas Bellinger and Ryder McIntosh scored once more for the Steel, but it wasn’t enough for the win. Christian Kirsch made 30 saves for the Jets, while Devin Shakur made 20 saves for the Steel.
Minnesota W 5 @ Wisconsin 6 - Minnesota’s Nate Murray got the period started with an unassisted goal. Wisconsin’s Braydon Beahm scored a goal assisted by Elliot Gulley. The Wilderness added another goal made by Luke Margenau with assists from Frantisek Netusil and Murray. Beahm added another with help from Martin Klicka to tie the game. In the second, Beahm scored another goal for the hat trick assisted by Ronnie Hill and Harper Frey. Zach Homer scored an unassisted goal for the Wilderness. Beahm assisted by Gulley takes the lead for Wisconsin. Noah Dziver snuck one more goal in to tie the game. In the third, Beahm added another goal with Gulley assisting. Felix Haibock assisted by Zachary Cline added one last goal for the Windigo giving them the win. Valdemar Anderson made 23 saves for the Wilderness and Wesley Jefferson-Swint II made 20 saves for the Windigo.
Corpus Christi 4 @ Oklahoma 3 (OT) - The first period remained scoreless. Kyle Sorenson assisted by Trent Burlison scored a goal for Oklahoma. Lars Petter-Eckholm scored a goal to tie the game assisted by Stepan Kuznetsov and Matteus Soderbom. Paul Wiczek with an assist from Max Petras took the lead for the Warriors. Soderbom tied the game with a goal assisted by Kuznetsov and Billy Biedermann. In the third, Matthew Green scored an unassisted goal for the IceRays. Sebatian Speck tied up the game with assists from Nate Farrell resulting in overtime. Kuznetsov won it in overtime with an unassisted goal for Corpus Christi. Nikita Volsky made 22 saves for the IceRays and Kyle Jones made 28 saves.
Minnesota M 3 @ Austin 5 - In the first, Alex Laurenza scored for the Bruins assisted by Ludvig Mellgren and Luc Malkhassian. Ashton Bynum added another goal with help from Nathan Williams. Laurenza made another goal with assists from EJ Paddington and Mellgren. Benjamin Tauscher scored a goal early in the second for the Mallards. Gustav Svantesson assisted by Connor Beckwith added to the Bruins score. Tauscher assisted by Trey Gnetz added another goal for the Mallards. In the third, Eli Bailey scored for the Mallards. Laurenza got the hat trick with another goal for Austin. Zane Spaniol made 49 saves for the Mallards and Jack Solomon had 17 saves for the Bruins.
North Iowa 1 @ Bismarck 2 (SO) - During the first, Holden Gallagher with assists from Tristen Trevino and Josh Lehto put the Bobcats on the board. In the third, North Iowa Bulls’ Jack Seaverson with assists from Cole Wirun and Denis Hodas tied the game resulting in overtime. Overtime remained scoreless which resulted in a shootout. Seaverson and Wirun scored during the shootout for the Bulls. Chase Reid, Keanu Krenn, and Calle Arvedson scored for the Bobcats in the shootout resulting in the win. Jack Hirshorn made 35 saves for the North Iowa Bulls and Kyle Ozgun made 12 saves for them as well. Kai Weigel made 22 saves for the Bobcats.
Shreveport 7 @ Odessa 6 - Those in attendance at Ector County Coliseum Friday night were certainly in for a treat, as the Shreveport Mudbugs took down the Odessa Jackalopes 7-6 in an overtime thriller. Nicholas Puricelli opened the scoring with his first of the year for Odessa, before Lucas Deeb would quickly tie it up for Shreveport. Kowin Belsterling, however, netted one late to give the Jackalopes the one-goal advantage. Pleasantries continued to be exchanged in the second as a combined six goals hit the back of the net. Belsterling, Nick Metelkin, and Christian Tavare each lit the lamp for Odessa. On the flip side, Kyan Haldenby, Aiden Puley, and Seth Murch each saw shots go in. Heading into the third down by one, the Mudbugs looked do some damage, and did just that with a pair of goals from Ian Emery and Liam Doyle to go ahead. It wouldn’t be long before Caden Morgan tied it up for Odessa and we headed to overtime. There, Haldenby was the hero as his rocket of the shot won the game for Shreveport in an epic barnburner.
Amarillo 0 @ Lone Star 4 - The Lone Star Brahmas continued their hot streak, as they shutout the Amarillo Wranglers for the second straight night, 4-0. Elias Kumlin opened the scoring in the first, which wound up being the period’s lone goal. Following a scoreless second, the Brahmas turned up the heat by netting a trio in the third. Ryan Comishock netted a pair, while Anthony Cappello also lit the lamp en route to the shutout victory. Netminder Ryan Cameron was spectacular in the crease, padding away all 29 shots faced.
Aberdeen 0 @ Minot 5 - Despite a scoreless first, the Minot Minotauros turned on the jets to cruise past the Aberdeen Wings Friday night 5-0. A pair of goals was scored in the second, courtesy of Adam Mahler and Jordan Gibbs. Heading into the third with a two-goal lead, the Minotauros didn’t stop there, as Billy Batten, Leo Cabulis, and Ian Spencer each lit the lamp. In what wound up being their second shutout in as many days, Minot held on for the victory. Goaltender Lukas Swedin was perfect in net, stopping all 31 shots thrown his way.
Colorado 1 @ El Paso 2 - The El Paso Rhinos stormed back Friday night against the Colorado Grit, earning a 2-1 victory. Ben Rakowski netted the only goal of the first period for the Grit. From there, following a scoreless second, Ryder Many Grey Horses took matters into his own hands. He scored a pair of goals in the third, just minutes apart to give the Rhinos the lead. Looking to make a comeback, the Grit came up just short as El Paso hung on for the victory. Despite the loss, goaltender Peter Sterling had a great night in net for Colorado, padding aside 30/32. Joey Lovullo also had a great night, stopping 18/19 to earn the victory for El Paso.
Springfield 3 @ Anchorage 6 - Springfield looked to avenge their loss to the Wolverines from Friday night. However, a win simply wasn’t on the cards for the Jr. Blues. Anchorage raced to a 3-0 first-period lead thanks in part to Cole Christian scoring a goal and providing an assist in the opening frame. Christian went on to score a second goal in the third period to help the hosting Wolverines pick up another win over Springfield. Goaltender William Lubimov made 36 saves on the night to help the home team skate away victorious.
Fairbanks 2 @ Kenai River 1 (SO) - These teams battled once again after a showdown Friday night that saw the Ice Dogs claim a 5-2 victory. This game was decidedly closer, and remained a similar intensity as the previous game. The two teams combined for 12 power play opportunities, with Fairbanks receiving a slight edge, playing with the man advantage seven times. Fairbanks took advantage, as Cole Burke’s second-period goal came on the power play. However, regulation could not separate these teams. They needed a shootout, where Luca Ricciardi and Ian Norkevicus scored to give Fairbanks their second straight win over Kenai River.
