Northeast Defenseman Miller makes NCAA DI Commitment

November 8, 2024

The Northeast Generals of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Emerson Miller has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Tennessee State University.

The ‘04 lefty is a product of the North American Hockey League. Miller is in his fourth year of playing junior league hockey with the NAHL, and he started his junior league career with the Corpus Christi IceRays in the 2021-2022 season. The next year he spent 7 games with the IceRays before making the move to the Northeast Generals for the rest of his career.

“Reflecting on my time with the Generals, I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences and lessons that have shaped me both on and off the ice under Coach Erikson and Coach Murray. The challenges, the growth, and the memories have all prepared me for this next chapter,” said Miller. “I’m beyond excited to continue my journey at the Division I level with Tennessee State University, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds as I take my game to the next level.”

As a General, Miller has tallied six goals, 27 assists, 33 total points, and currently holds a +24 rating on the three seasons. He has been an important piece on and off the ice for the Generals squad. Generals Head Coach, Bryan Erikson, stated that “he picks his teammates up with his enthusiasm and his work ethic. Emerson is a big role model for our younger players and veterans as he comes to the rink daily ready to work.” Erikson continued and said, “On the ice, he offers such a steady presence and he has gotten better every year.”

Miller is a beloved skater on the squad. Erickson has been his head coach during Miller’s entire time with the Northeast Generals.

“I am incredibly proud of Emerson. He is one of the best people to ever wear a General uniform.  Emerson is just a great human being. He has become a true leader on the blueline and a player that we love being able to play in key situations,” said Erickson. “Tennessee State is getting a great person, but also a phenomenal hockey player that will allow TSU to create a great culture in year one.”

His loyalty to the Generals' squad is prevalent throughout the organization.

Associate Head Coach Aaron Murray added, “Getting to work with Emerson every day has been a true pleasure. He is always so positive and willing to take any coaching I throw at him. He is a tremendous person and player, and TSU is getting an impact person and impact player. I am incredibly excited to watch Emerson the rest of this season and then to see him help build TSU into a premier program.”

Miller is the eighth player to commit to play Division I Hockey on the Generals this season.
