Saturday Scores: Rochester Extends Win Streak to Four

Maine 2 @ Danbury 4 - The Danbury Hat Tricks sought revenge after getting shutout yesterday, and did just that Saturday night with a 4-2 victory over the Maine Nordiques. The Hat Tricks opened the first period with a pair of goals, courtesy of David Utkin and Luke Golisano. Eathan Wongus put the Nordiques within one, before Jean-Sebastien Pack and Niko Tournas extended Danbury’s league in the second. Shane Kozlina then scored with just seconds remaining as Maine headed into the final period down by two. The Hat Tricks were able to hang on following a scoreless third, backed by netminder Tyler Spokane who padded away 32 of 34 shots to earn the win.
New Hampshire 3 @ New Jersey 8 - In a barnburner, the New Jersey Titans took down the New Hampshire Mountain Kings 8-3. Logan Renkowski got things rolling early for the Titans, before Tommy McDonough evened the score midway through the first. Ryan Friedman lit the lamp late to give New Jersey the one goal advantage headed into the second. There, the Titans took off thanks to three-straight goals from Ryan Novo, Jack Roberts, and Alex Papaspyropoulos. Oli Genest tried to minimize the gap for the Mountain Kings, before Papaspyropoulos netted his second to further the lead for the Titans. Jack MacDonald opened the scoring early in the third to give New Hampshire a glimpse of hope, however Renkowski and Jack Hillier tacked on another pair for good measure as New Jersey’s domination secured their victory.
Johnstown 4 @ Northeast 1 - The Johnstown Tomahawks cruised past the Northeast Generals Saturday night, defeating them by a final score of 4-1. Despite Northeast netting the game’s first goal, thanks to Jake Gutwirth’s 10th of the season, it was all Johnstown from there. A pair of goals from Nick White and Cullen Emery gave the Tomahawks a one-goal lead heading into the third. There, they capitalized on furthering their lead with shots hitting the back of the net from Adam Ondris and Caden Olenczak to solidify the win. Goaltender Zack Ferris was outstanding in net, allowing only one puck to go past out of 41 shots en route Johnstown’s victory.
Maryland 6 @ Elmira 2 - The Maryland Black Bears pounced on the Elmira Aviators Saturday night, coming out on top 6-2. Tanner Duncan netted his first of the year to give Maryland the lead just 28 seconds into the game. It wouldn’t take long, however, for Elmira to tie it up, thanks to Curtiss Sturgeon. There, Dylan Gordon lit the lamp to put the Black Bears back up. Victor Mannebratt and Kieran Litterick furthered the lead in the second, before Isac Nielsen extended it in the third. Sturgeon capitalized on another for the Aviators, however his offensive power wouldn’t be enough as Tyler Stern sealed the deal late for Maryland.
Minot 2 @ St. Cloud 3 (OT) - A back-and-forth matchup would need more than just regulation, as the St. Cloud Norsemen defeated the Minot Minotauros Saturday night in overtime. Sam Cloud scored midway through the first to give St. Cloud an early lead. It wouldn’t then be until the third period that pucks hit the back of the net. Ty James and Adam Mahler lit the lamp to put Minot up, however Hudson Blue netted one late to even the score. Heading into overtime, Tim Runtso sealed the deal by sliding one past the crease to allow St. Cloud to come out on top. Beck Liden earned the victory in net for the Norsemen. Despite the loss, Will Mizenko was solid in stopping 28 of 31 for Minot.
Rochester 5 @ Philadelphia 2 - Thanks to early domination, the Rochester Jr. Americans cruised past the Philadelphia Rebels Saturday night 5-2. Calle Karlsson’s pair of goals put the Jr. Americans up early, before Gabe Randel and Wyatt Stefan extended the lead to put Rochester up by four after the first. Thomas Neu and Billy Sheridan said not so fast however, as their goals for the Rebels put them within a pair. It would be Karlsson who got the final laugh though, as he lit the lamp early in the third for the natural hat trick as Rochester went on to win. Danick Leroux padded away 20 of 22 to earn the victory.
North Iowa 5 @ Watertown 0 - The North Iowa Bulls dominated the Watertown Shamrocks 5-0 on Saturday evening. The Shamrocks were scattered, smothered and covered by the Bulls as five different players recorded goals, and twelve different players recorded a point. Max Ferkodic potted two goals on the evening, with Denis Hodas and Parker Osborn each converted for a single goal, respectively. Evan Johnson also broke through to score his first goal of the year. Alexander Sabev came out with 25 saves on 30 shots for Watertown, while Jack Hirshorn blanked the Shamrocks as he stopped all 27 shots he faced on the evening.
Janesville 1 @ Wisconsin 4 - The Wisconsin Windigo secured the series sweep against the Janesville Jets with a 4-1 on Saturday night. Jayar Luedke put the Jets up to an early 1-0 lead in the first period with his sixth goal of the year. The Jets held the lead until Elliot Guiley scored on a solo effort for Wisconsin to tie the game at 1-1. The evenly matched bout held for a time, but Wisconsin forced their will on an opposing Janesville as they scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take the back-to-back victory. Braydon Beahm notched his 11th goal of the year, while Theodore Richardson secured his fifth goal of the year and Zachary Cline scored his fourth goal of the year in the win. Christian Kirsch made 27 saves on 29 shots, as two of the goals came in the yawning cage. Beau Allman made 24 saves on 25 to capture the win for the Windigo.
Bismarck 3 @ Austin 2 (SO) - The Bismarck Bobcats secured a thrilling 3-2 shootout win over the Austin Bruins on Saturday Evening. Alexandr Kim began the scoring for the Bobcats with his sixth goal of the year and second of the weekend to put the Bobcats up 1-0, followed by Drew Roelofs who opened his account with Bismarck as he scored his first goal to up the lead to 2-0. Austin responded with their own twin goals from Ashton Bynum, who opened his Austin account with his first score. Nathan Williams then scored his first goal of the year to knot the game up even at two. No answer was found throughout the remainder of regulation, nor throughout overtime. However only one winner could come away, and the difference was quickly made by Bismarck as Evan Hunter and Matthew Rafalski converted both of their chances to push the Bobcats through. Devin Rustlie made 26 saves on 28 shots for Austin, while Tomas Anderson made 29 saves on 31 shots.
Shreveport 4 @ Amarillo 2 - The Shreveport Mudbugs bested the Amarillo Wranglers 4-2 to secure the series win on Saturday night. Gleb Akimov and Andrej Paricka put the Mudbugs out to an 2-0 advantage early in the first frame, before Corson Maguire slotted a goal in the late in the first and Carl Jacobson notched a goal early in the second to tie the game up for Amarillo. Aiden Puley and Noah Ribero were able to propel the Mudbugs to the win with a bout of second period goals. Charles Antoine-Girard made 26 saves on 30 shots in his second stint in net in 24 hours, while Nikola Golch made 28 saves on 30 shots to secure the dub for the Mudbugs.
Minnesota M 2 @ Aberdeen 3 (SO) - The Aberdeen Wings squeaked past the Minnesota Mallards in a 3-2 shootout win to secure the weekend sweep. Both teams went back and forth on offense with Trey Fredenberg opening the scoring on the evening for Minnesota before Luke Backel evened the scoreboard for Aberdeen. Hunter Hayes recaptured the lead for Minnesota, but Sebastian Lilsund leveled the scoring for Aberdeen. Lilsund’s goal was the last of regulation, followed by 30 minutes of scoreless hockey. Overtime could not provide a solution, forcing the answer to be found in a shootout. Hunter Hayes and Erik Muller both failed to convert on their shootout attempts for Minnesota, while Leonid Bulgakov and Owen Pitters were successful on their shootout attempts to secure the win. Richard Rafaj had his work cut out for him as he made 38 saves on 40 shots in the loss, and Willum Braun made 27 saves on 29 shots.
Odessa 1 @ Lone Star 6 - The Lone Star Brahmas completed a weekend sweep Saturday night with a win over the Odessa Jackalopes. The Brahmas opened the scoring a minute into the first period with a goal from Charlie Masek. Scoring didn’t pick back up until the beginning of the second period when Jack L'Esperance netted a power-play goal for Odessa to tie the game. Just a minute later, the Brahmas’ Charlie Emmons found the back of the net while shorthanded to break the tie. The Brahmas put another point on the board late in the second period with Anthony Cappello scoring a power play goal to make the score 4-1 heading into the third. Saxton Tess and Owen Kerr each scored goals for Lone Star midway through the third period. Emmons scored the final goal of the game and his second of the night on an empty net while shorthanded to help secure the Brahmas 6-1 victory.
Colorado 4 @ El Paso 0 - The Colorado Grit picked up a victory on the road Saturday night against the El Paso Rhinos. The first period was scoreless, but late in the second period Luc Bydal netted a goal to put Colorado on the board. Late in the third period, Cade Kozak and Sheldon Rioux both scored goals only 30 seconds apart to make the score 3-0 Grit. With just a little under 40 seconds left in the game, Ben Rakowski found the back of the net on a power play to secure the Grit’s 4-0 win. El Paso’s goaltender, Micheal Manzi made 21 out of 25 saves in the loss, while Colorado’s netminder, Jack Erickson saved all 42 shots to earn his second NAHL shut-out and first of the season.
Oklahoma 1 @ New Mexico 4 - The New Mexico Ice Wolves defeated the Oklahoma Warriors to secure themselves a weekend sweep at home. New Mexico’s Andrew Earl kicked off the night’s scoring with a goal scored less than 30 seconds into the first period. Ethan Hull and Tanner George both netted goals for New Mexico later on in the first to make the score 3-0 heading into the second period. No goals were scored in the second period, with both teams holding strong defensively. Early on in the third period, Oklahoma’s Gleb Ushakov found the back of the net to score the Warrior’s only goal of the night. New Mexico retaliated back quickly with Hull scoring his second goal of the night just a few minutes later making the games final score 4-1 Ice Wolves. Oklahoma’s goaltender, Kyle Jones saved 38 out of 42 shots in the loss, while New Mexico’s Jackson Fuller stopped 20 out of the 21 shots he faced.
Chippewa 1 @ Anchorage 4 - The Anchorage Wolverines claimed a decisive victory over the Chippewa Steel on Saturday night. Chippewa opened the scoring late in the first period when Grant Denuccio netted a goal to give the team the lead heading into the second period. Anchorage retaliated back early in the second period with Parker Newman finding the back of the net to tie the game. Anchorage took the lead in the third period with a goal from Toby Carlson two minutes in. The Wolverines put two more points up on the board with a shorthanded goal from Taisetsu Ushio and an empty-net goal from Romulus Riego De Dios to secure Anchorages’s 4-1 win.
Minnesota W 5 @ Kenai River 2 - The Minnesota Wilderness earned a 5-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears Saturday night. The first period was scoreless. In the second period, Minnesota’s Luke Margenau found the back of the net to start the Wilderness with the lead. Later on in the period, Greye Rampton netted a goal for Kenai River to make the score at the end of the second 1-1. Jack Clark scored early on in the third to break the tie for Kenai River. Minnesota answered back quickly with a goal from Ben Roulette bringing the game back to a tie. Zach Homer, Payton Struck, and Ryan Warner all scored goals late in the third period to ultimately secure Minnesota’s win over Kenai River.
