Saturday Scores: Titans Win Sixth Straight

Tomas Anderson and the Bobcats are still perfect after 11 games

Rochester 3 @ Johnstown 4 - Despite being outshot 35-17, the Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Rochester Jr. Americans for the second straight night. The Jr. Americans struck first, thanks to a first period goal from Adam Gionta. It wouldn’t take long for the Tomahawks to get on the board however, as Adam Ondris quickly evened the game. From there, Johnstown would score three straight, courtesy of Caden Olenczak, Taybor Aldrich, and Jack Genovese. Wyatt Stefan looked to cut the lead for Rochester, and did just that with a goal to put them back within a pair. A late comeback effort from Hugo Branthsson fell short, as Johnstown would hang on for the 4-3 win.

New Jersey 3 @ Elmira 2 (OT) - The New Jersey Titans defeated the Elmira Aviators 3-2 in overtime in a close matchup Saturday night. Charlie Fink got things rolling early to put Elmira up first, before Ryan Shaw would quickly tie the game for New Jersey. Andrew DellaDonna netted the lone goal of the second period to give the Aviators a lead heading into the third period. There, Ryan Novo hit the back of the net to tie it at two a piece with just 58-seconds remaining. Heading into overtime after a few solid chances from both sides, Jack Hillier sealed the deal for New Jersey to become victorious and earn their sixth straight win.

Chippewa 4 @ Springfield 3 - In a back-and-forth matchup, the Chippewa Steel came out on top 4-3 versus the Springfield Jr. Blue Saturday night. Hunter Whisenand struck first to give Chippewa a lead, before Jagur McClelland quickly tied the game for Springfield. With just 20-seconds remaining in the opening period, Grant Denuccio would put the Steel up by a goal. The second period consisted of Jacob Ligi hitting the back of the net to extend Chippewa’s lead, however Junsu Kwak lit the lamp to again bring the Jr. Blues within one. Whisenand then netted his second of the game to put the Steel up by a pair. Despite McClelland’s late goal for Springfield, they would fall just short as Chippewa hung on for the victory.

Minot 6 @ North Iowa 5 - Fans certainly were in for a treat Saturday night, as the Minot Minotauros and North Iowa Bulls put on an offensive showdown, with Minot just narrowly coming out on top 6-5. The Minotauros took the first period lead, thanks to a pair of goals from Davin Nichols and Billy Batten. It would be North Iowa to strike next however, as Denis Hodas and Sangyeob Kim lit the lamp to even the score. Ben Aucoin then netted one to give Minot the one goal advantage heading into the final period. Hodas would open the period with another goal, before Cole Wirun hit the back of the net to give the Bulls their first lead of the night. The Minotauros then went on a rampage to score three straight in just under three minutes, courtesy of Aidan Dres, Jesse Juhola, and Aucoin. Kim would net another one late for North Iowa, however time would expire as Minot hung on to win in a thriller.

Maine 2 @ Maryland 1 - A battle between two of the top teams in the East had the Maine Nordiques emerging victorious 2-1 against the Maryland Black Bears. Luke Janis opened the scoring, in which would wind up being the only goal of the game for the Black Bears in the first. There, it took almost two full periods for Maine to get on the board, but Shane Kozlina did to tie it up late in the second. Ethan Rosenoff hit the back of the net with under five minutes remaining in the game to put Maine up, and his game winner would help solidify the 2-1 win. Netminder Carter Richardson was almost perfect in net, padding aside 27/28 in the victory.  Despite the loss, Benji Motew played outstanding in stopping 32/24 shots.

Danbury 1 @ Philadelphia 4 - The Philadelphia Rebels secured a 4-1 victory over the Danbury Hat Tricks on Saturday Evening. The Rebels used a strong offensive game plan to come away with the win over the visiting Hat Tricks. Philadelphia tallied 40 shots in the matchup, with goals being notched by Charles Panchisin, Billy Sheridan, Charlie Spencer, and Caesar Bjork. Danbury’s lone goal came from Mike Sciabarra who tallied his second score of the year on the night. Philadelphia goaltender Beau Lane made 29 out of 30 saves for the win, while Danbury Jack Fialkoff accrued 36 saves on 40 shots in the loss.

Lone Star 3 @ Oklahoma 2 - The Lone Star Brahmas snuck by the Oklahoma Warriors with a 3-2 win Saturday evening. The suspenseful matchup secures the series for the Brahmas, who played a much wider game as they came away with a 6-1 win the previous night. The teams each scored a pair of goals unanswered, with the Brahmas 2-0 tallies coming from Owen Kerr and Vladimir Saibel. The Warriors then answered promptly with scores from Ben LIkness and Domink Kiss. However, it would ultimately be Saibel who scored his second of the evening to put the nail in the coffin on the Warriors. Lone Star goaltender Nicholas Avakyan notched 14 saves on 16 shots for the evening, while Oklahoma goaltender Billy Stuski made 17 saves on 20 shots in the loss.

Aberdeen 3 @ Minnesota M 0 - The Aberdeen Wings blanked the Minnesota Mallards to come away  with a 3-0 win on Saturday evening. Aberdeen notched goals from Brady Estabrook, Luke Backel and Leonid Bulgakov. Aberdeen rocked off 43 shots in the offensive tilt, while Minnesota only fired 33. Damon Cunningham made a perfect 43 saves on 43 shots for the win, while Richard Rafaj recorded 30 out of 32 for Minnesota in the breathtaking affair.

St. Cloud 2 @ Austin 3 (OT) - Alex Laurenza buried the golden goal in overtime for the Austin Bruins as they bested the St. Cloud Norsemen 3-2 on Saturday evening. Each team scored a goal in the first and second periods, while neither scored in the third. The Bruins found regulation scoring from Jackson Reilei and Gustav Svantesson, while the Norsemen found back to back goals from Carter Lundie and Kyle Miller. Austin goaltender Jack Solomon made 23 saves on 25 shots in the win, while St. Cloud split the carries between Connor Roff and Beck Linden.

Amarillo 3 @ Shreveport 2 - The Amarillo Wranglers escaped Shreveport with a 3-2 win over the Mudbugs on Saturday evening. The Mudbugs jumped out with the scoring early, featuring a pair of goals from Aiden Puley and Kyan Haidenby. Then, the Wranglers scored three unanswered goals from Gerhard Grayson, Jacob Miller,  and Andrew Morrison, including the game winner. Shreveport goaltender Charlie Zollin made 34 saves on 46 shots on the victory, while Aden Gariepy stopped 18 out of 22 shots for Shreveport on the night.

Watertown 0 @ Bismarck 2 - Tomas Anderson was a perfect 23 of 23 as the Bismarck Bobcats blanked the Watertown Shamrocks 2-0. After a scoreless first period. Gabe Keene potted his second goal of the season with help from Evan Hunter and Ian Engel. About seven minutes later it was Alexandr Kim getting on the scoresheet with his fourth of the campaign. Zane Rowan and Engel had the helpers on that tally. The Bobcats improve to 11-0, their best start in team history. River Leslie-Toogood stopped 31 shots in a losing effort for the Shamrocks.

New Mexico 4 @ Odessa 1 - The New Mexico Ice Wolves long losing streak is finally over as they took down the Odessa Jackalopes 4-1. Noah Mertz scored his second of the season in the opening frame to get the Ice Wolves out in front. Bryce Johnson added to the lead in the second period. In the third, Ben Polomsky and Francois De Villiers added insurance to the New Mexico lead. Zachary Benayon broke the goose egg for Odessa but it wasn’t enough. Jackson Fuller earned the win in goal as he made 23 saves. William Karphed finished the evening with 22 stops.

Colorado 3 @ Corpus Christi 1 - Three unanswered goals from the Colorado Grit gave them the victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays. After Raymond Perrault broke the scoreless tie in the second period, Braden Junker and Lucca Ari scored four minutes apart to tie the game and then give the Grit the lead. Ori would net his second of the night in the third period as that would ultimately be enough for Colorado to take the win on opposing ice. Peter Sterling was nearly perfect, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Vlad Bryzgalov was stuck with the loss as he stopped 22 shots.

Anchorage 7 @ Fairbanks 1 - It was all Anchorage on Saturday night as the Wolverines dismantled the Ice Dogs 7-1. Brock Devlin led all skaters with four points, all assists. Taisetsu Ushio netted a goal and two helpers while Toby Carlson chipped in a pair of goals for Anchorage. Cole Christian, Romulus Riego De Dios, Andrew Karmic and Jakob Badnarik all visited the red light district for the Wolverines. Kyle Rohrer was the lone goal scorer for the Ice Dogs. Roberto Leonardo Henriquez was the winner in the blue paint as he turned aside 23 of the 24 shots fired in his direction. Mason McElroy and Kevin Jones combined to make 31 stops for the Ice Dogs.

Wisconsin 8 @ Kenai River 2 - The power play was lethal for the Wisconsin Windigo as they went 3 for 6 with the man advantage in their 8-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears. Elliot Gulley had two goals and an assist while Jordan Brothers potted a pair of tallies in the win. Alexios Georgaklis had a goal and two assists of his own while Michael Ryan and Lucas Bush each had goal and a helper. Luke Baker also scored for the Windigo. Gavin Jensen and Brady Engelkes got on the board for Kenai River. Lucas Szyszka earned the win between the pipes for the Windigo as he stopped 31 of 33 Kenai River attempts. Owen Zenone and Leif Ekblad teamed up to stop 33 shots.
