Saturday Scores: Bismarck Stays Perfect
El Paso 5 @ Colorado 1 - Jacob Solano’s natural hat trick in the second period propelled the El Paso Rhinos 5-1 past the Colorado Grit Friday night. Following a scoreless opening period, the Rhinos got things rolling and never looked back, thanks to a pair of goals from Solano in midst of the second. George Poirier would put the Grit within one, before Solano netted his third of the night for the hat trick, furthering El Paso’s lead. Roope Tuomioska and Kyle Arias sealed the deal for the Rhinos in the third, as El Paso came away with the victory. Goaltender Michael Manzi was spectacular in net, padding aside 30/31 in the win.
Anchorage 6 @ Chippewa 0 - A pair of goals each period helps the Anchorage Wolverines run away with a 6-0 victory over the Chippewa Steel. Toby Carlson and Cole Christian opened the first period, netting a goal apiece. The duo didn’t stop there however, as they each netted one in the second to extend the Wolverines lead. Anchorage wouldn’t hit the breaks quite yet, as Merit Waldrop and Connor Jalbert each scored in the third to help solidify the 6-0 win. Roberto Leonardo Henriquez led the way in net with a 33-save shutout.
Rochester 3 @ Danbury 4 (OT) - The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks defeated the Rochester Jr. Americans by a slim margin, as their late overtime goal solidified a 4-3 win. After a scoreless first 18 minutes of the opening period, David Utkin and Niko Tournas netted one each just 11-seconds apart to give Danbury a 2-0 advantage. Not long after, Owen King saw his opportunity and sniped one in the back of the net to cut the lead in half. Rochester picked up where they left off, thanks to Hugo Branthsson’s fourth of the season just 27-seconds into the second to tie the game. Dexter Kichline then fired one to give the Jr. Americans their first lead of the night. Ben Dempster would even it up, as the matchup would need to be decided in overtime. There, Tournas slid one past the goaltender to give the Jr. Hat Tricks the 4-3 win.
Maine 2 @ Johnstown 1 - In a low-scoring affair, the Maine Nordiques came back to defeat to the Johnstown Tomahawks 2-1 Friday night. Following a scoreless opening period, Nick White would get the game’s first goal, giving Johnstown a 1-0 lead in the second. The Nordiques would eventually even things up, courtesy of Eathan Wongus. Late in the second, and unassisted tally from Arhip Sidarovich gave Maine the lead as the 2-1 score would hold for the victory. Despite the loss, Daniel Heroux was excellent in the crease, stopping 24-26 shots faced. Carter Richardson earned the victory for Maine, padding away 18/19.
New Jersey 4 @ Northeast 3 - Fans certainly were in for a treat, as a back-and-forth matchup between the New Jersey and Northeast saw the Titans come away win a 4-3 win. Benjamin Campeau opened the scoring, sliding one past the netminder to give the Generals and early lead. Late in the first, Jack Hillier’s first of the season tied in for New Jersey. After a scoreless second period, Logan Renkowski and Kai Dunits exchanged pleasantries, making it 2-2 in the third. From there, a pair of goals from James Schneid and Shawn Leary gave the Titans a 4-2 lead late. Despite a late attempt to comeback, courtesy of a goal from Joseph McGraw, New Jersey was able to hang on for the 3-2 victory.
New Hampshire 5 @ Elmira 1 - Despite opening the game’s scoring, the Elmira Aviators fell to the New Hampshire Mountain Kings 5-1 Friday night. Following a scoreless first, Charlie Fink got the Aviators on the board early in the second, but from then on it was all New Hampshire. Goals from Jake Hutchen, Tanner Anctil, Williams Francisco-Parent, and Oli Genest allowed the Mountains Kings to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Luc Lampert then tacked on one more for good measure in the final frame, giving New Hampshire the 5-1 win. Sebastian Bodnar was outstanding, padding asides 28/29 shots in the victory.
St. Cloud 5 @ North Iowa 2 - In what was a back-and-forth game initially, the St. Cloud Norsemen clamped down in third to emerge victorious against the North Iowa Bulls, 5-2. Goals from Cole Wirun and Peyton Mithmuagneua respectively, saw the game tied at one apiece after the first. Then, Jack Seaverson and Sam Crane each netted one to remain even after the second. From there, it was all St. Cloud as Bronson Hunt, Wes Berg, and Andrew Cumming each saw their shots hit the back of the net to give the Norsemen the 5-2 win.
Philadelphia 1 @ Maryland 6 - The Maryland Black Bears triumphed past the Philadelphia Rebels Friday night 6-1 in a lopsided affair. Luke Rubin got the action started with the game’s lone goal of the opening frame. From there, Tyler Stern netted one, before Abzal Alibek put the Rebels within one. Aiden Lawson and Riley Fast kept the heat on, scoring one apiece to give Maryland a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the final period. Isac Nielsen and Kareem El Bashir then sealed the deal with a pair of goals, as 6-1 was the final in this one. Ryan Denes stood tall in net, saving 29/30 to earn the victory.
Aberdeen 3 @ Watertown 0 - Damon Cunningham’s shutout helped the Aberdeen Wings stay undefeated against the Watertown Shamrocks. After a scoreless first, Gavin Reed’s second of the season gave the Wings a one-goal lead. In the third, Leonid Bulgakov’s sixth of the season doubled the lead. Watertown could not finish on their five power play opportunities, and Ishan Mittoo eventually added the empty netter to seal the deal.
Minot 4 @ Austin 2 - The Minot Minotauros improve to 2-2 while handing the Austin Bruins their first loss of the season. John Small kicked off scoring with a power play goal in the second, but Ryan Lund quickly tied things up. Emil Samuelsson’s first of the season gave Austin a temporary lead, before Adam Mahler equalized. Jesse Juhola gave Minot the late lead and Small sealed the game with the empty netter.
Oklahoma 1 @ Shreveport 2 (OT) - Cole Hutchinson’s overtime goal won the game for the Shreveport Mudbugs over the Oklahoma Warriors. Andrej Paricka gave the Mudbugs the lead in the second with his first goal of the season. Travis Bryson tied the game on the power play, midway through the third period. Aden Gariepy would stop 19-of-20 and earn the win when Hutchinson iced the game 30 seconds into overtime.
Minnesota M 1 @ Bismarck 2 - Two power play tallies helped the Bismarck Bobcats improve to 7-0 and defeat the Minnesota Mallards. Zane Rowan’s second of the season gave Bismarck the lead. In the third, Julian Beaumont extended the lead. Late in the third, Brady Borgestad gave Minnesota life after putting the team’s first past Kai Weigel. Unfortunately, that was the only goal the Mallards could muster, as Bismarck remained undefeated.
Springfield 4 @ Minnesota W 3 - The Springfield Jr. Blues are now 5-2 after defeating the Minnesota Wilderness. Tied 2-2 after the first period, Gaige Giblin and Junsu Kwak gave Springfield a two goal-lead in the second period. Lucas Jendek cut into the lead in the third, but ultimately never could slot a tying goal past Matt Schoephoerster– who made 36 saves in the win.
Amarillo 1 @ Lone Star 2 (SO) - Ryan Comishock’s lone shootout goal gave Lone Star Brahmas the win over the Amarillo Wranglers. Leo Bergstrom kicked off scoring late in the second period. Both goalies were dialed in, with Amarillo’s Charles-Antoine Girard saving 17 in the contest and Lone Star’s Jack Spicer saving 28. Midway through the third, Carl Jacobson finally tied the game for Amarillo. Ultimately, Comishock’s lone goal won the shootout, as Charles-Antoine stopped three in the shootout for the win.
New Mexico 2 @ Corpus Christi 3 (SO) - Stepan Kuznetsov’s buzzer beater allowed the Corpus Christi IceRays pick up their sixth win of the season in the shootout over the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Both goalies held shutout bids entering the third period, before Bryce Johnson broke through for New Mexico. After Troy Pelton tied the game, Peloton put the Ice Wolves back on top. Kuznetsov sent the game to a scoreless overtime, and eventually helped ice the game with Matteus Soderbom in the shootout.
Janesville 1 @ Kenai River 2 (SO) - The Kenai River Brown Bears defeat the Janesville Jets in the shootout after a defensive and goaltending stalemate. Oliver Langland gave the Brown Bears the lead in the first, but Rylan Brady quickly answered. Before the shootout, Janesville’s Mattew Alberti stopped 38-of-39 and Kenai River’s Mitchell Mccusker saved 33-of-34. Ultimately, Greye Rampton’s shootout tally secured the win for the Brown Bears.
