Shreveport defenseman Austin makes NCAA DIII commitment
The Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League are pleased to announce that Ryan Austin has announced his commitment to play Division III hockey at Nichols College.
Austin, 21, joined the Mudbugs in the 2022-2023 campaign and made an immediate impact on the blue line. The Rochester, New York native played in all but 4 of the 60 regular season games as a rookie, amassing 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) in those games. He also made three appearances in the 2023 Robertson Cup Playoffs.
Ryan remained a steady contributor to the back end this season, playing in 42 games in the regular season and nine playoff appearances. Throughout the course of his NAHL career (including regular season and postseason), Austin has played in 110 games and tallied 26 points.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Ryan played two seasons in the NAPHL with the Tri-State Spartans program. In two seasons with the Spartans he combined for 11 goals and 29 points.
Austin becomes the 9th player on Shreveport’s roster to make an NCAA commitment this season.
