Black Bears Assistant Captain Horacek makes NCAA DIII Commitment

June 25, 2024

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that Assistant Captain Jesse Horacek has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for SUNY Oswego in the SUNYAC.

Horacek, 20, is a three-year Maryland Black Bear veteran, beginning his junior career during the 2020-21 season. Throughout his three seasons in his home state of Maryland, the 6’2” forward appeared in 152 regular season games, in addition to 21 Robertson Cup Playoff games, including two back to back trips to the Robertson Cup Championship event in Blaine Minnesota.

Significantly improving his point totals each year, the Derwood, MD native registered a total of 103 points (34 goals, 60 assists), 55 being tallied during his final season of junior hockey. On nine separate occasions this season, Horacek was able to get on the scoresheet twice in a single contest, including the January 19th game against the Philadelphia Rebels where he was able to score the game winning goal.

As a prominent member of the Black Bears, Horacek was selected to participate in both the 2023 and 2024 NAHL Top Prospect Tournaments.

Horacek is the 12th player to commit for the Black Bears this season and will be joining teammate Michael Urgo on campus in the fall.
