Black Bears defenseman Amell makes NCAA DI Commitment

June 14, 2024

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Luke Amell has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Sacred Heart University in Atlantic Hockey.

Amell, 20, is a three-year NAHL player, suiting up for both the Aberdeen Wings and the Maryland Black Bears. Throughout his time in the league, the Mars, PA native appeared in 114 regular season games, recording 31 points (7 goals, 24 assists). In addition to regular season play, the 6’4” blueliner skated in 24 Robertson Cup Playoff games, recording 6 assists this season where Amell and the Black Bears advanced to the Robertson Cup Championship game.

With his best year being the 2023-2024 season, Amell was selected to represent the East Division at the 2024 Top Prospects Tournament.

“Luke has been a strong presence in our lineup for the past year and a half, and we are excited that he has earned the opportunity to continue his hockey path with Sacred Heart University,” stated Black Bears Head Coach Clint Mylymok. “Luke has been a big part of  two very successful Maryland Black Bear seasons. Congrats to Luke and his family, who have supported us immensely the past few years.”

Amell is the 10th player to commit for the Black Bears this season.
