Lone Star and Maryland Win on Day One of Robertson Cup

The 2024 North American Hockey League (NAHL) Robertson Cup National Championship got underway on Friday at Fogerty Ice Arena in Blaine, Minnesota, with Lone Star and Maryland picking up wins on day one.
Day One Recaps:
Anchorage Wolverines 2 vs Lone Star Brahmas 8 (Lone Star leads the series 1-0): The Lone Star Brahmas made a statement in game one of the Robertson Cup Semifinal round after taking down the Anchorage Wolverines 8-2. In the opening frame, Lone Star went ahead 1-0 with a goal from David Skuhrovec (18:07) beating Anchorage goaltender Liam Beerman to the right side of the net. The Brahmas kept their foot on the gas and on a man advantage Jacob MacDonald (9:03) scored, making it a 2-0 game. Soon after, Charlie Masek (10:15) found the back of the net, extending the Brahmas lead to 3-0. Later in the period, Anthony Cappello (17:55) scored the final goal of the period for the Brahmas to take a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission. In the second period, Connor Bergeron (6:29) added on to the Lone Star lead with a shorthanded goal, 5-0. Later in the period, Jacob MacDonald (9:03) scored while on the power-play to add his second of the night to end the period for the Brahmas ahead, 6-0. In just under two minutes in the third period, the Wolverines added back-to-back goals. Bryce Monrean (1:03) netted a power-play goal and Kade Shea (1:33) scored making the score 6-2. Later in the period, Justin Kerr (15:15) and Owen Kerr (16:50) both scored for the Brahmas to win game one, 8-2. Brahmas goaltender Jack Wieneke turned away 33 shots in the win.
Maryland 7 vs. Minot 3 (Maryland leads the series 1-0): The Maryland Black Bears topped the Minot Minotauors in a 7-3 final to take a 1-0 series lead. The Black Bears came out hot in the first period adding three unanswered in under two minutes. Luke Janus (5:11) got the scoring going for Maryland. Less than a minute later, Jeremi Tremblay (6:07) made it a 2-0 game, and then Dimitry Kebreau (6:30) making it a 3-0 game. Minot found the back of the net with Nicholas Sewecke (13:11) for a 1-0 score. The Black Bears scored to make it a 4-1 game with Dimitry Kebreau (13:43) netting his second of the night. Nearing the end of the period, Jack O’Hanisain (18:21) scored for Minot, ending the period with a score of 4-2. In the second period, Luke Janus (5:12) picked up his second goal of the night for a 5-2 Maryland lead. Minot answered back quickly with Trevor Stachowiak (5:49) scoring to get Minot on the scoresheet again, 5-3. There were no goals scored in the third period as the Black won game one, 7-3. Maryland goaltender Owen Lepak was fantastic in net as he stopped 25 shots on net.
