Nordiques goaltender Heaney makes NCAA DI Commitment
The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Thomas Heaney has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Connecticut in the Hockey East.
Heaney, 21, is playing his 3rd season in the NAHL. The Ocean Port, NJ native began his NAHL career in 2021-2022 with the Johnstown Tomahawks, appearing in 7 games between the pipes, posting a 4-1-2 record with a 2.68 AA and save percentage of .908.
Following the 2021-2022 season, Heaney spent 15 games with the Ohama Lancers in the USHL before returning to the NAHL with the Maine Nordiques. Over the course of his two seasons with Maine, the 6’0” netminder appeared in 64 games, posting a 29-25-2-4 record, averaging a 3.41 GAA and .897 save percentage.
“Tommy is a great kid and a student of the game. I was happy to get to work with him this season. A natural leader on and off the ice, we knew we could rely on him,” said Nordiques Head Coach Nick Skerlick. “Tommy is a very deserving person and the opportunity to compete at the Hockey East level is an amazing accomplishment for such a deserving young man. We wish Tommy good luck, and a huge congratulations to him and the rest of the Heaney family!”
As we head into the divisional semi-finals, the Nordiques will be facing off with the #3 seeded Rochester Jr. Americans. Game one in the best of five series will take place this Friday at 7:30 PM EST at The Colisee.
Heaney is the 15th player to commit for the Nordiques this season.
