Odessa forward Dunn makes NCAA DI Commitment

February 20, 2024

The Odessa Jackalopes are proud to announce that forward Cameron Dunn has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Massachusetts (NCAA D1).

Dunn is in his second season with the Jackalopes. Last season, Dunn played in 35 games at the NAHL level spanning over three teams (Austin, El Paso, Odessa), and had 6 goals and 5 assists.  This year he’s had a breakout year, leading the team in points (38), goals (15), and power play points (15). Dunn is also one of three alternate captains for the Odessa Jackalopes, along with defensemen Trevor Mitchell and Lemuel Vardy.

When asked about the opportunity for Dunn to continue playing at the collegiate level, here’s what Jacks Head Coach Scott Deur had to say. “We are excited for Cameron and his family on his commitment to UMass. He joined our team around Thanksgiving of last season and has consistently improved his game. His work ethic and leadership has set a standard for our younger players to look up to. We look forward to seeing him succeed at the collegiate level.”

Dunn mentioned how crucial the team and the coaching staff here has allowed him to grow his game. “It’s been really fun here in West Texas. Obviously, it’s a really nice rink with really nice facilities. Playing under Scott Deur has been awesome. He lets you get comfortable and I think that’s exactly what I needed. My teammates have all been amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to play with the same person for the last year and a half, Michael Kadlecik. I can thank him for what he’s done. We’ve got some real chemistry together and I think him and I really helped each other get to the next level.”

Dunn also commented on how excited he is to begin his collegiate journey next season at UMass, “I’m super excited, obviously it’s a super good program, well known and known for their development to professional hockey and it’s just an honor to be recruited by such a program in HockeyEast and I’m really excited to get started next year.”

The University of Massachusetts Minutemen play in the Hockey East conference, one of the most competitive conferences in all of collegiate hockey.
