NAHL Weekend Preview

January 12, 2024

2024 rolls on this weekend in the NAHL as 30 games are on the schedule from Friday-Sunday.

Coming into this weekend, there are a handful of teams at or towards the top of the standings that are riding extended winning streaks which include the Central Division-leading Minot Minotauros, who have won nine straight games. In the East, Maryland has seized control of the division thanks to a six-game winning streak. In the Midwest, Janesville has taken over the top spot thanks to a six-game winning streak, and in the South, El Paso is closing in on division-leading Lone Star thanks to a nine-game winning streak.

The rosters for the 2024 Top Prospects Tournament will be announced within the next week as the number of spots each NAHL team gets in the event has been determined.

The 2024 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held on February 5-6, 2024, at the UPMC Lemieux Center in suburban Pittsburgh, PA. The NAHL will field six teams for the event, one for each division, and two NAHL Selects teams.

It was another good week for NCAA commitments as eight more players made NCAA Division I commitments as the current season total is now up to 174 committed players.

In the Central this weekend, Minot puts their league-best record and nine-game winning streak on the line as they host St. Cloud. The Aberdeen Wings are just one point behind 3rd place Austin as they travel to face the Bruins. The 2nd place Bismarck Bobcats will host North Iowa this weekend.

In the East, division-leading Maryland faces a tough task with two road games against the 4th place Northeast Generals. The 2nd place Maine Nordiques look to keep the pressure on Maryland as they travel to face the New Hampshire Mountain Kings, who have lost their last eight straight games. The 3rd place Johnstown Tomahawks take their four-game winning streak to Danbury to take on the Jr. Hat Tricks. The Philadelphia Rebels are in Rochester to take on the surging Jr. Americans.

In the Midwest, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs return home to take on state rival, the Anchorage Wolverines. 2nd and 3rd place collide this weekend in Eagle River as the Minnesota Wilderness take to the road to face the Wisconsin Windigo. The Chippewa Steel are on the road to face the Springfield Jr. Blues, who are now in 7th place. Both the Janesville Jets and Kenai River Brown Bears are idle.

In the South, Odessa looks to snap a four-game slide as they are in Shreveport to take on the 3rd place Mudbugs. The 1st place Lone Star Brahmas are back home to take on the Oklahoma Warriors as the two teams collide for a second straight weekend. The New Mexico Ice Wolves are in Corpus Christi to take on the IceRays. The final series has the Colorado Grit in Amarillo to take on the Wranglers for three games. On Monday, Odessa and Lone Star will play an afternoon game in North Richland Hills. El Paso is idle.
