Shreveport forward Nichol makes NCAA DI commitment

The Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward and team captain Hayden Nichol has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Air Force Academy in Atlantic Hockey.
Nichol, 20, is currently in his third and final season playing junior hockey in the NAHL for the Mudbugs. The 6’1/185 lbs. native of Brentwood, TN, is currently leading the team in scoring with 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) in 17 games played to date so far this season.
“I'm extremely proud to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at the United States Air Force Academy. I'd like to thank my family, teammates, and coaches who have supported me along the way!” said Nichol.
During the 2022-23 season, Nichol had a breakout year recording 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 58 games played during the regular season. He also had three points in eight Robertson Cup Playoff games.
“Hayden is the epitome of a consistent hockey player. He has progressively become more impactful in all situations and has had a breakout year so far this year. Air Force is getting a great player, kid, and leader,” said Mudbugs head coach Jason Campbell.
During his rookie season in 2021-22, Nichol posted 11 points in 47 games played. Overall in his three-year NAHL career, Nichol has recorded 63 points in 122 career games.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Nichol played for the Nashville Jr. Predators. He also played four games in the NAPHL for the TPH Thunder 15U team during the 2018-19 season.
