NAHL Weekend Preview
The NAHL gets back to action this weekend with 32 games on the schedule from Friday-Sunday.
With the regular season approaching the 20-game point, the standings are tight at both the top of the standings and for the playoff spots in each division.
There were four more NCAA Division I commitments this week, which brings the current 2023-24 season total to 113 players in the NAHL who have made commitments.
Less than three months remain until the 2024 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will take place on February 5-6 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, PA. The NAHL Top Prospects Tournament is one of the most highly scouted events of its kind, featuring almost every NHL team and NCAA Division I school. it continues to provide the hundreds of NHL and NCAA scouts in attendance with a look at the best uncommitted players the NAHL has to offer, as well as some potential NHL Draft picks.
In the Central Division this weekend, the 1st place Austin Bruins look to extend their three-game winning streak as they travel to Minot to take on the 2nd place Minotauros. The St. Cloud Norsemen enter their weekend in Aberdeen not having allowed a goal in 120+ minutes as the Wings try and snap a five-game slide. The Bismarck Bobcats look to end their small two-game slide as they are on the road to face North Iowa.
In the East Division, the Maryland Black Bears and Maine Nordiques enter the weekend in 1st and 2nd place respectively in the division and both are riding six-game winning streaks entering the weekend as the Black Bears host New Jersey, while Maine hosts Rochester. In other action, New Hampshire is at home as they look to end their six-game slide against Danbury. After spending almost the past month on the road, the Johnstown Tomahawks return home as they host the Philadelphia Rebels. On Sunday, the Northeast Generals host New Hampshire.
In the Midwest, all eight teams are in action. The red-hot Wisconsin Windigo look to add to their three-game winning streak as they host Springfield. The Janesville Jets are back in action as they host the 1st place Minnesota Wilderness. In Alaska, a rivalry continues as Fairbanks is in Anchorage to take on the Wolverines. The Chippewa Steel are in Kenai River as they look to snap their current six-game slide.
In the South Division this weekend, the 1st place Lone Star Brahmas are home as they take on the 2nd place El Paso Rhinos for a second weekend in a row. The Colorado Grit head south looking to snap a seven-game slide as they take on the Odessa Jackalopes. The New Mexico Ice Wolves look to extend their two-game winning streak as they host the Amarillo Wranglers. The final series has Oklahoma on the road to face Corpus Christi. Shreveport is the lone NAHL team that is idle this weekend.
