Anchorage goalie Soderwall makes NCAA commitment
The Anchorage Wolverines of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Shane Soderwall has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Curry College.
Soderwall, 20, joined the Wolverines for its inaugural season in 2021-22, previously playing for the Rochester Grizzlies in the NA3HL.
The 6’2/180 lbs. native of Algonquin, IL, appeared in 38 games during the most recent 2022-23 season and posted a 17-15-2 record with a 3.21 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.
During the 2021-22 season, Soderwall posted a 12-13-1 record in 26 games played with a 3.04 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.
Curry College is located in Milton, Massachusetts, and finished the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 22-6-1 and a conference record of 16-4-1.
“Watching Shane progress this season, I am really excited for him to continue his hockey journey at Curry College. He will step in and fight for games right away,” Head Coach Nick Walters said. “He is an intense competitor that kept us in a lot of games we didn’t belong in. Down the stretch, he logged a lot of minutes for us, and I see that being the case in the future at Curry College.”
During the 2020-21 season, Soderwall led the Rochester Grizzlies all the way to the Fraser Cup Championship Game. He was named the NA3HL Goaltender of the Year and also named to the All-NA3HL 1st Team as he finished the 2020-21 regular season with a 19-2-0 record, a 1.30 goals-against average, a .949 save percentage and six shutouts, which all led the NA3HL. He backstopped the Grizzlies to the league championship game, going 7-2-0 with a 1.69 GAA and a .935 save percentage in nine playoff games.
