Minot forward Amici makes NCAA DI commitment
The Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Kolby Amici has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Bentley University.
Amici, 20, just completed his second and final season playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 5’9/180 lbs. native of Orchard Park, NY, spent the 2022-23 season with both the Minot Minotauros and the El Paso Rhinos.
“I’ve heard good things about the program and that Coach Jones, who just got the job there, is great,” said Amici. “Bentley has a really good finance and business school and that is something I’m excited about.”
Amici began the season with El Paso, recording 17 points in 37 games played. At the trading deadline in early February, he was dealt to the Minotauros where he finished with 12 points in the final 20 games of the 2022-23 regular season.
Amici was also selected to and played in the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team, where he recorded a goal and an assist in two games.
“Bentley is getting a high energy, high work rate player, who will find a way to make an impact one way or another. They are also adding a genuine and positive person to campus. We couldn’t be more excited to watch Kolby over the next four years,” said Minot head coach Cody Campbell. “Kolby is extremely deserving of this opportunity. He had a fantastic junior career and was a huge part of our late season success. He will fit in seamlessly to the academic community and the team culture that Andy Jones will establish at Bentley.”
During his rookie season in 2021-22, Amici appeared in 54 games for the Jamestown Rebels and recorded 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists).
“I would like to thank the whole Minotauros organization who welcomed me right away and made me feel at home. I also want to thank my family, my teammates and my friends because I couldn’t have done it without any of them! And finally anyone who has had a part in my hockey career,” continued Amici. “Being a Minotauro really helped me become who I am in such a short amount of time both on and off the ice with becoming a good person and just Minot has all the resources for you to work on your game whenever you want and I think that really helped me reach this goal.”
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Amici played three seasons of prep school hockey for the Nichols School.
